💡 What does it take for a startup to become AI-ready? Technology is part of it, but so are the people and knowledge needed to put it to work.

At the Startup Canada Tour in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, Riipen Employer Sales Manager Andrew Nguyen connected with founders during a day focused on building and growing businesses. One theme that resonated with many of the tech startups he met was the need to increase AI literacy for both companies and students entering the workforce.

Building that understanding can help startups get clearer on where AI could create value and what practical action could look like.

Students, exploring your career options is exciting, but you can also start preparing for what comes next right now. 🔎 At the University of Alberta’s Careers Day, Toritse Ikomi, Riipen’s Student Experience Manager, connected with students thinking about their next steps and how they can start building toward them.

What stood out in Toritse’s conversations was how actively students are seeking ways to bridge the gap between learning and the workforce. They’re looking to build their networks, strengthen their skills, and gain professional experience, and real projects with employers can give them a place to start putting those goals into practice.

For Canadian students, the Riipen student journey offers a way to build on what you’re learning through real projects with employers and gain experience you can carry into your next opportunity. Start building toward what comes next: https://hubs.li/Q04ydzsH0 🚀

Students, the skills you’re building are worth putting into practice. 💡 At the University of Calgary’s Fall Career Fair, Bisola Ogamba, Riipen’s Senior Manager, Events, and Jaime Lysak, Student Success Coordinator, connected with students and employers throughout the day.

Their conversations covered Riipen Labs and the opportunities students have to gain experience through real-world projects. With plenty of new connections made throughout the day, it was a chance to show how students can start putting their skills into practice while they’re still learning.

If you’re a Canadian student, the Riipen student journey gives you opportunities to apply what you know, build new skills, and create real examples of what you can do through projects with employers. Your institution is committed to career-connected learning. But do you have the capacity to deliver it at scale? 💡

The Career-Connected Capacity Check is a quick assessment designed to help higher education leaders understand where their institution stands—and where there may be opportunities to strengthen their approach.

Take the assessment to explore:
✅ Whether you have the structures to make career-connected learning meaningful and visible at scale.
✅ The four structural barriers that can prevent experiential learning from scaling.
✅ What leading institutions are changing in their operating models.
✅ Where your institution can begin closing the gap between commitment and capacity.

Knowing where you stand is the first step toward deciding what needs to change.

What a two days at ALL IN 2026!

Our team came to Montreal ready to talk about the difference between experimenting with AI and being ready to put it to work. Along the way, Kristin Spong, Sumandeep Singh, and Jennifer Lussier connected with employers, educators, students, and organizations from across industries and around the world.

One thing those conversations reinforced: moving ideas into action takes more than technology. It takes real challenges to solve, opportunities to apply new skills, and connections between organizations and the talent ready to contribute.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Riipen booth, shared what you’re working on, and took the time to get to know us. And thank you to ALL IN for bringing so many perspectives together in Montreal!

Deux journées bien remplies à ALL IN 2026!

Et merci à ALL IN d’avoir réuni autant de perspectives à Montréal!

Real AI momentum does not come from bigger ideas. It comes from clearly scoped work tied to real business needs.

This looks different for everyone:

For students, it’s showing how AI can make an impact.
For employers, it’s a way to access student talent to help streamline business tasks.
For academic institutions, it’s providing students with real-life projects to better prepare them for the workforce.

Claudius Thomas, Founder & CEO of My AI Pathway http://Inc., shared how this worked in practice.

Through Riipen, his team turned early AI ambition into structured, student-supported projects for their Fred Marketplace platform.

Instead of trying to “do AI,” they focused on specific business problems, such as product development, market research, UX testing, and data work.

Students helped accelerate mobile readiness, improve user experience, and build a dialect-aware dataset that improved translation accuracy for agricultural terms.

Claudius estimates the company would be two years behind without this approach.

This is what AI readiness looks like in practice: clear scope, real work, and human-led ex*****on supported by students and AI tools.

Students, there are lots of ways to start putting what you’re learning into practice. 💡 Last week, Solina Quinton, Riipen’s Employer Sales Manager, joined students at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC)’s Get Experience Fair to talk about building skills through real-world projects with employers.

There was lots of excitement at the Riipen booth, including from students who had already participated in Riipen programs and stopped by to share their positive experiences. It was great to see students at different points in their journey, from discovering Riipen for the first time to already having real-world project experience.

If you’re a Canadian student looking for a place to start, the Riipen student journey can help you practice your skills, work on real projects, and build evidence of what you can do. See where your Riipen journey can take you: https://hubs.li/Q04xVLyh0 🚀

The real AI question is not “Can we use it?” but “Where should we use it?”
A human-in-loop model helps employers decide where AI should assist, where review is needed, and where AI should not be used.

A simple way to scope this is the Green, Yellow, Red model:
Green: AI assists
Yellow: AI needs review
Red: Human-led only

To make this practical, we use a 5-step operating model:
1. Define the business outcome.
2. Sort work into green, yellow, and red.
3. Approve data and tools.
4. Build in human review.
5. Capture learning.

This structure helps teams move from experimentation to safe, repeatable AI use in real work.
