That’s a wrap on the 2026 Convergence: Credential Innovation in Higher Education, presented by UPCEA and the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers! 👋

This week, Riipen’s Dr. Mara Woody joined Steve Jurch of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) to explore how institutions are building employer partnerships and implementing work-based learning at scale through the Workforce Futures Accelerator Project.

Mara also participated in a workshop with leaders from Education Design Lab and UW-Stout Polytechnic on connecting credentials, employer engagement, and work-based learning.

💡 A key takeaway from these discussions? Putting learners at the center of workforce program design. From more accessible credit for prior learning to learner-first approaches and stronger support for colleges and students, the sessions highlighted different ways to create meaningful, sustainable learning opportunities.

There’s a difference between completing a degree and graduating with experiences that show an employer what you can do.

Students may leave with knowledge and credentials, but have they had opportunities to apply that knowledge to authentic problems? Can they speak to workplace expectations? Can they point to real examples of their contributions?

If employment is part of the outcome students expect from higher education, those questions matter.

On October 22, Riipen and Tyton Partners will bring together two research-informed perspectives to explore them.

Degree completion matters. But as students look toward employment, they’re also asking whether their education has given them meaningful opportunities to apply what they know in professional settings.

We’re proud to partner with Tyton Partners on their latest research exploring a critical question for higher education: How can institutions demonstrate the value of a degree for today’s students?

Today, Tyton Partners released Driving Toward a Degree 2026: Student Supports Reinvented for ROI and AI, with Riipen and Lumina Foundation serving as anchor partners.

Drawing on perspectives from more than 1,200 higher education administrators, advisors, and frontline support staff across 750+ U.S. institutions, the research examines how institutions are responding to growing pressure around student support, career readiness, AI, and the return on a degree.

One finding that particularly resonates with our work at Riipen is that career readiness is emerging as a critical link between the degree and its perceived value.

That’s why partnerships like this matter.

Tyton brings a deep understanding of the priorities, pressures, and investments shaping higher education. Riipen brings our perspective on connecting academic learning with authentic work experiences that help students build skills, confidence, and evidence of what they can do.

Riipen is heading to the 2026 Convergence: Credential Innovation in Higher Education, presented by UPCEA and American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers! 👋

On October 14, Dr. Mara Woody, Riipen’s Director, Strategic Partnerships, will join Steve Jurch of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) for “Building workforce partnerships through the Workforce Futures Accelerator.”

They’ll share how institutions are using the Workforce Futures Accelerator Project to build employer partnerships, design workforce-aligned programs, and implement work-based learning at scale. 🤝

Mara will also present an afternoon workshop at 3:30 p.m. on connecting credentials, employer engagement, and work-based learning, alongside Joseph Davis from Education Design Lab, Dr. Beth Hein, and Julie Zaloudek from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Together, they’ll explore recent changes in the labor market and how institutions may respond.

Riipen’s Directors of Partnerships, Jillian Murray and Erin Stine, will also be at Convergence to connect with fellow leaders across higher education and workforce development.
