Ahead of today’s full solar eclipse, we’re looking beyond the spectacle to the science and engineering that make it possible to predict, model, and study such an extraordinary event.

It’s a compelling example of the kind of complex physical modeling and simulation workflows that can be explored with MATLAB and Simulink combining orbital mechanics, data analysis, visualization, and system-level simulation to better understand how real-world systems behave.

Our latest article explores how scientists model the shadow before it falls and what today’s eclipse can teach us about the Sun, space engineering, and the power of simulation. Read the full article on our website:

Falling river levels, shrinking reservoirs, and water constraints are putting new pressure on energy producers across CEE.

The question is no longer just how to respond to drought, but how to design systems that remain resilient when conditions change.

Simulation can help energy companies test how plants, cooling systems, controls, and operations perform under different water-availability scenarios, identify potential bottlenecks, and evaluate adaptation strategies before making costly real-world changes.

At the Hackathon organized by the University of Pannonia, AUMOVIO, and SciEngineer, the winning team tackled a real automotive engineering challenge: estimating the speed difference between a motorcycle’s front and rear wheels using real sensor data.

Their solution turned noisy measurements into an accurate model of motorcycle dynamics, while meeting the requirements of embedded automotive hardware.

Now, we’re taking a closer look at the winning team’s approach and ex*****on: the engineering decisions they made, how they developed their model, and how the solution can be applied to a real-world automotive use case.

The future of engineering is not only about generating results faster. It is about building reliable workflows where AI and engineering expertise work together.

In a practical engineering example, SciEngineer ’s Application Engineer, Bence Nagy, explored how Agentic AI can support the verification process of a Light Control System architecture using System Composer, Simulink, and the Simulink Agentic Toolkit.

The focus is not simply on automation. It is about integrating AI into structured engineering workflows where verification, traceability, and engineering expertise remain essential.

The workflow included:
✅ Analyzing system requirements
✅ Creating a verification plan
✅ Generating test cases linked back to requirements
✅ Executing the test suite in Test Manager

The results:
✅ 7/7 test cases passed
✅ Full traceability from requirements to test results
✅ Complete workflow completed in under 20 minutes

Agentic AI has great potential in engineering, but reliable processes, verification, and human expertise remain essential.

At Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), MATLAB campus-wide access enabled direct support from our educational engineer to explore how could strengthen an existing electromagnetics course.

Attila Géczy (BME) and Koppány Ákos Kiss, PhD (SciEngineer) analyzed the course syllabus together to identify areas where simulation-based learning could complement theoretical concepts.

The result was a hands-on PCB antenna design and optimization exercise where students explored real engineering workflows and investigated the impact of geometry and materials.

The developed lab exercise will become part of the curriculum, creating a new learning opportunity for future engineering students.

As automotive software development evolves, engineering teams are exploring new ways to integrate AI into their workflows.

Bence Nagy, our Application Engineer, created a practical step-by-step walkthrough showing how to connect AI Agents with Simulink using the MATLAB & Simulink Agentic Toolkit.

The video below covers the 5 key steps:
1️⃣ Download the agenticToolkitInstaller from the MATLAB GitHub repository.
https://github.com/matlab/matlab-agentic-toolkit/ -the-MATLAB-Agentic-Toolkit

2️⃣ Open the Getting Started guide and choose the installation path that fits your environment.

3️⃣ Run the installation command in MATLAB:
setupAgenticToolkit("install")

4️⃣ Configure the MCP Server and MATLAB & Simulink Agentic Toolkit.

5️⃣ Verify the connection
Ask your AI Agent:
"Do you see the open MATLAB session, and do you have access to the MATLAB and Simulink Agentic Toolkit and skills?"
If the agent lists your available toolboxes, the connection is ready.

This is another example of how AI capabilities can become part of future engineering workflows, supporting areas such as modeling, simulation, testing, and development.

Explore Bence’s full walkthrough and learn more about integrating AI Agents with Simulink.
