Workers and companies continue to clash over return-to-office (RTO) policies, with Amazon recently making headlines for mandating a five-day in-office workweek.

In September, ResumeBuilder.com surveyed 1,030 U.S.-based full-time employees working for companies that implemented an RTO policy since 2020, now requiring employees to go into the office at least once per week.

Key findings:
~ 1 in 5 workers aren’t following their companies’ RTO policy
~ The majority of workers want to be in-office 3 days or less per week
~ Many workers will quit if their company forces compliance
~ 68% say their productivity would improve if they could choose their own schedule

As a follow-up to our 2023 survey on seniors in the workplace, and to better understand the current and future employment status of older U.S. residents, ResumeBuilder.com surveyed 750 people ages 65 to 85 in September 2024.

Key findings:

- 13% of retired seniors say they’re likely to start working again next year
- Top reason for retirees returning to work is increased cost of living
- 22% of seniors are currently working
- 38% of working seniors don’t plan to retire for 5 or more years

In June, ResumeBuilder.com surveyed 1,250 U.S. workers to understand how a layoff would impact them and what compromises they would make in the workplace to survive a potential cut.

Key findings:

- 32% of workers would take a demotion, and 31% would accept a pay cut to prevent being laid off
- 1 in 5 workers could only sustain their current lifestyle for a week or less if laid off
- Biggest concerns about being laid off include affording housing and losing benefits

In the age of return-to-office (RTO) mandates, business leaders seem to be increasingly prioritizing in-person work, citing easier collaboration, management, and project efficiency.

To better understand managers’ perceptions of in-person versus remote workers, in June, ResumeBuider.com surveyed 626 managers who supervise both in-person and remote employees.

Key findings:
-Majority of managers say in-person workers are better leaders, easier to train
-56% report caring more about the growth of in-person workers
-1 in 4 managers is more likely to fire their remote vs. in-person direct reports
-Needing more supervision tops reasons for increased likelihood of axing remote workers

In May, Resume Builder surveyed 1,050 corporate workers who have paid time off (PTO) benefits to find out how many have recently done or plan to engage in quiet vacationing.

Key findings:

🌴 2 in 5 workers worry about the impact of taking PTO on job security
🌴 1 in 10 workers participated in quiet vacationing in the past year
🌴 Anxiety is the top reason for workers not utilizing PTO for vacation days
🌴 1 in 8 intend to engage in quiet vacationing this summer
🌴 1 in 4 workers at companies that don’t participate in “Summer Fridays” plan to engage in the practice anyway
