The Checklick Coach Compensation Survey 2026 is now open.

We're running this year's survey earlier than usual so the results can be ready for 2027 season hiring, budgeting, and compensation planning.

The survey gives the coaching community a clearer picture of compensation across different sports and regions. It also provides information that coaches, instructors, clubs, and managers can use when looking at compensation and planning for the 2027 season.

Have your coaching experience included in this year's survey.

The survey closes October 23, 2026.

There is a recognizable moment in the life of a growing sports club when the tools that got the organization to its current size start visibly showing their limits.

It looks like this:

• The registration spreadsheet that two people managed cleanly at 50 members becomes a coordination problem at 150

• The email-based process that was manageable for 20 programs requires a full-time administrator at 40

• The paper evaluation records that worked for one coaching team become an inaccessible archive when coaches change and records do not transfer

The organization has not changed direction. The programs have not declined. The commitment is the same.

But the tools are no longer adequate for the scale. And the gap widens every season.

The right time to choose software for the scale a club is growing toward is before it gets there - not during a fall enrollment season when the current system is already failing, and not after a coach transition where a season of athlete data walked out the door.

When evaluating software for a growing club, the questions worth asking are:

• Does it handle multi-program operations without multiplying administrative workload?
• Does it keep athlete data with the club rather than with individual coaches?
• Does it support program licensing for expansion beyond a single facility?
• Does it charge proportionally to activity rather than monthly regardless of program volume?

Hundreds of sports clubs trust Checklick to simplify evaluations, sell programs online, and manage athlete development.

Sport Canada and provincial funding bodies are asking for structured evidence of program outcomes.

Not participation headcounts. Not narrative descriptions of program activity.

Structured evidence - showing what athletes achieved, how they progressed through development pathways, and how outcomes compare across seasons.

For PSOs, the quality of year-end funding submissions is determined not in October when applications are due but throughout the summer when programs are running and data is being collected.

Organizations that collected evaluation data through Checklick's Evaluation Marketplace this summer have that evidence ready right now:

• The custom information you collected at registration, reportable without manual compilation
• Completion rates by program level across the affiliate network
• The same skill checklists in use at every affiliated centre, updated instantly from one place
• All produced from the same evaluation framework through the same platform

Organizations that collected data through club-level spreadsheet submissions face weeks of normalization before any of that is usable for funding reporting.

Summer program data is the most current and complete program evidence a PSO has at this moment.

August is when using it produces the most value. Most organizations will not get to it until October.

Retention in youth sports is not primarily a marketing problem.

It is a visibility problem.

Parents who can see their child's development clearly throughout the season arrive at the re-enrollment decision with evidence:

• Specific skills completed
• Specific levels achieved
• A clear development pathway forward

The case for continuing is made by the data. The decision is easy.

Parents who cannot see their child's development clearly arrive at that decision with a general impression of a season that went reasonably well. That impression is real - but it is not specific enough to reliably produce action in a busy August when competing activities and full schedules are making every decision harder.

Specific visibility converts. General impressions are easier to override.

Port Credit Yacht Club uses Checklick's built-in progression displays to show parents exactly where each participant stands in the program pathway. Parents can instantly view their child's milestones, which builds confidence in the club's long-term pathway.

Progress visibility is produced automatically when coaches evaluate athletes digitally during sessions. No additional communication effort required. It is a byproduct of the evaluation workflow.

When a new fall coach joins a club and the summer evaluation data lives in the previous coach's personal files, the fall coach starts with a blank slate.

They spend the first several weeks of fall:

• Assessing athletes who have already been assessed
• Building a picture that already exists
• Establishing a baseline that summer documented in detail

This is not a coaching problem. It is a data infrastructure problem.

And it repeats every fall at every club that stores athlete evaluation records in individual coaches' files rather than in a platform that belongs to the organization.

The fix is operationally straightforward.

When evaluation data is stored in a centralized platform, a new fall coach is given access on day one. They open the platform and immediately see:

• The complete summer evaluation history for every athlete in their group
• Which skills each athlete demonstrated
• Which level each athlete finished at the end of summer

They pick up exactly where the summer coach left off because the data tells them exactly where that was.

The first session of fall becomes a continuation session, not an assessment session. Athletes experience continuity. Parents notice it.

Checklick stores all evaluations in the club's centralized platform. Coach transitions do not move the data. New coaches start informed.

Make sure your fall coaches start with the full picture of every athlete they are working with.

The Canadian Sport Governance Code establishes accountability expectations for national and provincial sport organizations in Canada.

The practical implication for how programs are managed is a shift in what funders and oversight bodies look for.

The shift is from assertion to evidence.

• An organization that claims its programs produce athlete development outcomes is making an assertion

• An organization that produces structured evaluation data showing what skills athletes worked on, how they progressed, and what outcomes were achieved is providing evidence

These are different standards.

An organization that can only assert is in a weaker position with funders than one that can evidence. And the gap between these two positions is determined not at reporting time but throughout the year - when programs are being delivered and data is or is not being collected in a structured, centralized, auditable format.

For NSOs and PSOs building infrastructure that supports these accountability expectations, Checklick centralizes evaluation records and supports audit trails as a byproduct of how programs are normally delivered, not as a separate compliance effort. Starlight Sailing Adventures uses it to stay compliant with Sail Canada standards without additional manual work.

At the end of every season, most sports clubs ask coaches what went well and what did not.

This is a reasonable process. Coaches have genuine insight.

But memory is selective. It favors the dramatic and the recent. The skill that caused consistent difficulty in Week 3 is less vivid in August than the breakthrough in the final session. The athlete who quietly plateaued across multiple sessions is harder to recall than the one who had an obvious breakthrough.

End-of-season evaluation data answers these questions with evidence rather than memory:

• Which skills had the lowest completion rates across the program?
• Where did athletes consistently plateau between levels?
• Which programs had strong completion but weak retention into the next season?

These questions, answered with structured data, produce specific and actionable curriculum improvements before fall programs begin. The same questions answered from memory produce general impressions that are harder to act on and easier to get wrong.

For clubs using Checklick, the season's evaluation data is already in the platform. Answering these questions means working from records that exist, not rebuilding them from memory.

Most sports club dropout does not happen during seasons.

It happens between them.

During a season, athletes are showing up. Coaches know them. The habit of attending is active and self-reinforcing. Even athletes having a mixed experience tend to continue because the momentum of regular participation carries them forward.

When the season ends, that momentum has nothing to carry it:

• There are no sessions to attend
• The habit weakens
• Other activities fill the schedule
• When fall communication finally arrives, the family has already made other plans

The moment sports clubs lose most of their athletes is in the six weeks between the last summer session and the first meaningful fall communication.

Closing that gap requires two things:

1. Timing - communication that arrives within a week of the last session, while the habit is still active

2. Specificity - a message that tells each family exactly what their child accomplished and what they are ready for next

Both require athlete tracking data. When it exists and is accessible, specific and timely communication is operationally straightforward. When it does not, only a generic message is possible.

Close the between-season gap that is costing your club athletes every year.

Every fall enrollment season, volunteer-run sports clubs face the same surge of administrative tasks all at once:

• Registration requests coming in faster than they can be processed
• Payments arriving separately and needing manual reconciliation
• Class lists going out of date before coaches can use them
• Waivers being chased by email before the first session
• Families asking if their registration actually went through

Each task is small on its own. Collectively, across dozens or hundreds of registrations arriving simultaneously, the burden is significant for teams that are already stretched.

The clubs that get through fall enrollment without burning out their volunteers are not the ones with more people. They are the ones with fewer manual steps.

In a properly configured Checklick Storefront, every one of those tasks happens automatically the moment a family completes checkout:

• Enrollment recorded instantly
• Payment processed and confirmed
• Branded receipt sent automatically
• Class list updated in real time
• Waiver collected within the checkout flow

Gimli Yacht Club moved all registrations online through Checklick with payment required at sign-up. Volunteers now save an estimated 15 minutes on every registration. Across 80 participants, that is roughly 20 volunteer hours saved every year.

NSOs and PSOs that collected evaluation data through a centralized platform this summer are in a fundamentally different position right now than those that collected it through club-level spreadsheet submissions.

The first group can pull a complete report in minutes:

• The custom information you collected at registration, reportable without manual compilation.
• Skill completion rates by program level
• The same skill checklists in use at every affiliated centre, updated instantly from one place
• Multi-season comparisons where available

The second group faces weeks of normalization work before any of that is possible. Different clubs submitted data in different formats. Different coaches applied evaluation criteria at different thresholds. Assembling a credible picture from inconsistent submissions is time-consuming and produces a result funders can see through.

Summer program data is one of the most valuable funding assets a PSO or NSO has.

Right now, in August, while it is fresh and complete, is when it is most useful. Most organizations will not look at it until October, under deadline pressure, when it is much harder to use well.
