We are heartbroken to share this and to ask our community to come together for one of our own.
Many of you knew Cezar Roy as the owner of Gordon’s Good Games in Atascadero, but we knew Cezar long before that. He was a regular customer at Captain Nemo and Cheap Thrills for years, buying and playing plenty of Magic and Warhammer and picking up movies along the way. When the original owners of Gordon’s decided to sell the store, Cezar took it over and became an important part of our local gaming community.
Tragically, last week Cezar was killed in a car accident caused by a wrong-way drunk driver on Highway 101. His girlfriend, who was seven months pregnant, was seriously injured in the crash and remains in the hospital. Devastatingly, their unborn baby did not survive.
She now faces not only the unimaginable grief of losing Cezar and their baby, but a long recovery, hospital and medical expenses, and the responsibility of caring for her two other children.
Cezar was an incredibly kind, gentle and genuine person. Whenever our manager Rico would run into him in Atascadero, Cezar would greet him with a hug and ask how he was doing. That was simply the kind of person he was.
The gaming community on the Central Coast overlaps in so many ways, and many of our longtime customers are also longtime customers and friends of Gordon’s. This loss hits very close to home for all of us.
A GoFundMe has been created to help Cezar’s girlfriend and her family through what is going to be an incredibly difficult road ahead. If you are able to donate, any amount will help with medical expenses, recovery and supporting her children. If you aren't able to donate, sharing the fundraiser can make a difference too.
Our hearts are with Cezar’s girlfriend, his family and friends, everyone at Gordon’s Good Games, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Cezar was one of the good ones, and he will truly be missed.
