Our 1060 nm VCSEL-Based Optical Engine received the Optical Component Innovation Award at .

The technology takes a different approach to AI scale-up connectivity, integrating high-density VCSEL and photodetector arrays with electronic ICs in a compact FOWLP package designed for high bandwidth density, low power, and compatibility with standard SMT assembly.

At the ECOC Exhibition, Lumentum is bringing another building block for AI scale-up to the booth: an eight-wavelength DWDM laser module in an ELSFP form factor, designed for external laser source applications in CPO and NPO architectures.

By separating the laser from the highest-temperature environment on the host and enabling independent access, servicing, and replacement, the pluggable module offers a practical approach to compact, standards-based optical connectivity as AI data rates and port densities increase.

AI scale-up is pushing optical connectivity closer to the compute.

At the ECOC Exhibition, Lumentum, Qualcomm, and Corning Incorporated are demonstrating a high-density optical die-to-die architecture using 1060 nm VCSELs to support high-bandwidth, low-power, and low-latency links over multimode fiber.

The demonstration combines Lumentum's VCSEL platform, Qualcomm's D2D interface technology, and Corning's fiber connectivity – showing a practical path toward compact, energy-efficient optical links for next-generation AI systems.
