"My father and uncles served in the military. On Veterans Day, I think of them. They are excellent role models who helped inspire me to also serve my country. This day also reminds me to reconnect with my Army buddies.

The fact that we have an all-volunteer military means that those who choose to serve this great country have made a willing decision that impacts not only themselves, but their families, friends, and coworkers. It’s always appreciated when we’re recognized or thanked by others for having made that choice. It’s not for everybody, but I certainly wouldn’t be the person am I today had I not been a soldier.

Anaplan hires the best and encourages everyone to be their best. The teamwork and dedication to the mission remind me of my Army units. Everyone pulls their weight, and our coordinated teamwork gets the job done."

"This Veterans’ Day I'll make sure to spend time with my family. I have spent enough time away from my wife and children and can't overstate how important they are to my sanity and success. I'll also reach out to some Army buddies to catch up and likely share old stories.

I'm the fourth of four consecutive generations to serve in the military - it's an institution in my family. For our family, service is about civic responsibility and a commitment to making a positive impact on our community. We've been lucky over the years because all but one of us have returned home. And for that, we're extremely grateful.

I'm fortunate to work with great people and collaboration is more than just lip service (and having worked at other companies I can tell you how rare that is). After being in the service for 26 years, non-military roles have felt challenging for me. I will always see myself as a Soldier first. But everyone here is genuine and authentic which makes it easy for me to be me, even when it isn't always the most elegant or polished version of me."

This month, I am learning from and supporting my peers. Over the years of Black History Month in the United Kingdom, I have rarely taken part as I couldn't see the wider reach. And making the Black voice and people heard and seen was somewhat foreign to me. But I've realized that I need to be present and help in any way I can. I too have so much to learn about my culture and Black History. This month I will be attending events, connecting with family, and making some new connections. This is my first year as the Co-Lead of the Anaplan BEAD ERG. BEAD is an important ERG for diversity and shows representation for those looking to join Anaplan and allyship.

The theme for this year is "Time for Change: Action not Words". This could not be more prevalent. As a Black woman, I always felt the need to 'fit in' to my corporate positions. Anaplan is the first company where I can be my authentic self, in the way I dress and in my hair styling for example. We are encouraged to be the best versions of ourselves and to grow. This is also what I hope to impart, not just to my team but to the many people I work with. In my role, I feel valued for my knowledge, experience, and desire to make a positive difference in what we do. I have a 23-year-old daughter starting out in her career, and I hope she doesn't have to go through the battles I and many before her have had to.

Yesterday was National Boss’s Day! ✨
The history of Boss's Day goes back to 1958 when the concept of National Boss Day was founded by Patricia Bays Haroski, then an employee at State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Illinois. That year, Madame Bays Haroski registered the holiday with the United States Chamber of Commerce. She designated October 16 as the special day because it was her father's birthday, who also happened to be her boss. Four years later, Illinois Governor Otto Kerner backed Haroski's registration and officially proclaimed the day. Let your boss know you appreciate them, and tag them below!
