From PDF Drawing to RFEM 6 Model with AI | Dlubal CALC

Remodeling a structure from a drawing is rarely the hardest part of a project, but it is often one of the slowest. The geometry is already defined on the sheet, yet every node and member still has to be entered again by hand. The Drawing Analysis skill in Dlubal CALC takes over that step. Upload your drawing, tell Mia what you need in plain English, and she reads the sheet, extracts the key dimensions, nodes, and members, and links every value back to the view it came from.

Next, switch to the RFEM Modeling skill and set your modeling rules. Mia creates the model directly in RFEM 6, then reads it back and compares it with the analysis, member by member and node by node. You get a model you can trace and verify without writing a single line of code, and the engineering decisions remain yours.

🌊 A new wave in Milan’s skyline.

Designed by BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group, CityWave connects two office buildings with a spectacular suspended canopy, creating a 4,500 m² sheltered public plaza in the CityLife district.

Its double-curved roof combines 19 cables with five-layer cross-laminated timber panels to span nearly 140 m. Structural engineering was carried out by HB – Holzner & Bertagnolli Engineering srl.

💻 Dlubal RFEM helped engineers understand this complex structure through detailed global and local finite element models, supporting:

🔹 Nonlinear analysis of the cable-supported roof
🔹 Assessment of construction stages and load redistribution
🔹 Evaluation of wind effects and serviceability
🔹 Detailed analysis of connections and support regions

☀️ The roof also integrates approximately 11,000 m² of photovoltaic panels, generating around 1,200 MWh of energy annually.

An ambitious architectural vision brought to life through timber, cables and advanced structural analysis.

AI in Structural Analysis: Tool, Not Replacement ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Yesterday, I attended the webinar "AI and Structural Analysis – Dlubal CALC", presented by Daniel Dlubal and Rebecca Göbel. The central idea really struck me: structural analysis software needs to be rethought. We are moving from a simple calculation program to a true workspace, where artificial intelligence supports engineers throughout their work. The live demo, featuring the structural analysis of a carport in Dlubal CALC, made this shift very tangible.
