In 2015, a father saved his son's life when doctors wrongly declared him brain-dead and were taking him off life support. He barricaded himself with a gun in the hospital and had a stand-off with SWAT until his son squeezed his hand. The son made a full recovery.
“Mr Pickering was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and jailed.
He was released earlier this month after the charges against him were dropped”
Not that what he did wasn’t super illegal and dangerous, especially after admitting he was drunk - that’s his son.

I snapped at my mother because she asked the same question three times. When I saw her crying, I finally understood what was actually happening.
"Did you eat, Mom?"
She nodded slowly.
She was sitting at the kitchen table with her hands folded together. Smaller than I remembered her. The house wasn't dirty—it was just... neglected. A towel draped over a chair. Dishes in the sink. A corner of the table wiped, but not all of it. My mother didn't do this. She was the woman who cleaned twice a day. Who couldn't stand leaving anything to chance.
"Did you eat?" she asked me.
"Yes, Mom, I ate."
I opened the fridge. There was food. But it looked scattered, placed without thought.
A few minutes passed.
"But did you eat something?"
I shut the door harder than I meant to.
"Mom, how many times do I have to tell you the same thing?"
Silence. The heavy kind.
She looked up at me.
That's when I saw them. Tears. Not many. But enough.
"I'm sorry," she whispered. "I forgot I already asked you."
Her voice was small. Very small.
My chest tightened. This wasn't about irritation anymore. This wasn't about her annoying me. This was something else.
I started looking around. Really looking. At the disorder in the house. At how she sat. At the way she lost herself mid-sentence. And then a cold thought arrived.
"Mom, do you forget things often?"
She shrugged.
"I don't know. Maybe."
She smiled, but it wasn't real.
"It's just getting old."
But it wasn't just that.
In the days that followed, I started visiting more. Paying attention. She asked me the same questions. Forgot I'd been there the day before. Asked about things we'd already done. And I understood I couldn't put this off anymore.
"We're going to the doctor, Mom."
"Why?"
"Just... to check."
We went. Tests. Questions. More appointments. I didn't want to believe it. But part of me already knew.
The doctor looked at me calmly.
"It's a mild form of Alzheimer's. Early stage."
I went completely still. In my head, just one moment played on repeat.
"Mom, how many times do I have to tell you the same thing?"
My words. Thrown without understanding. She wasn't frustrating me. She couldn't help it.
I left the hospital holding her hand. She was calm.
"Is it serious?" she asked.
I swallowed hard.
"No, Mom. But I need to take care of you now."
She smiled like a child.
Everything changed after that.
I don't raise my voice anymore. I don't count how many times she asks. If she asks five times, I answer five times. If she forgets, I tell her again. Because I understood something fundamental: she wasn't asking to irritate me. She was asking because she couldn't remember.
If your parents repeat things, it might not be stubbornness. It might be the beginning of a battle you can't see.
We have full lives. They have less and less. And sometimes, all that's left for them are questions. And us.
When was the last time you visited yours?
Call them today. Visit this week. Or just send a message. Someone reading this might need it—and they might be someone who needs you more than you realize.

In 1997, in Russia, a poacher shot and wounded a tiger and stole part of its recent kill. The tiger later found the cabin that the poacher was living in and then waited at least 12 entire hours for the poacher to come home. The tiger then killed and ate the man upon his return.
