Deep in the heart of Northern California’s fog-draped ancient groves stands Hyperion—a living monument that silently touches the sky.
Reaching over 381 feet (116 meters) high, this majestic Coast Redwood holds the title of the tallest living tree on Earth. To put that into perspective, Hyperion towers over the Statue of Liberty, Big Ben, and most 30-story skyscrapers. Estimated to be roughly 600 to 800 years old, it was already a growing sapling during the Middle Ages, quietly surviving centuries of forest changes, fires, and nearby logging operations.
Discovered in 2006, Hyperion’s exact coordinates remain off-limits to the public. The National Park Service keeps its precise location secret to prevent soil compaction around its shallow roots and protect the pristine ecosystem that has nourished it for centuries.
Looking up into the dense canopy of California’s redwoods is a humble reminder of nature's scale, endurance, and quiet wonder. 🌲✨
