****ATTENTION ayersvilletelco.com email users****

It's come to our attention that a sophisticated targeted SPAM email was delivered to a number of our email customers yesterday. If you received a message asking you to activate enhanced security features for your email account, please delete the message. If you followed the instructions in the email, please call in to change your email password.

The formatting and wording within this email, along with the design of the login page, have been well crafted by this scammer. The login page linked in the email is almost identical to our legitimate login page. This targeted sophistication is difficult to spot.

Scammers are continually working to format their messages to both bypass SPAM filters and to trick people into providing the information that they are looking for. They use wording designed to trigger instinctive and quicker reactions. Because of this it can be very difficult to spot these scams.

If you did click through on this email and attempted to login to their fake page, please call us at 419-395-2222.

For future emails, if you get an email or text you’re not sure about:

Don’t click on any links.
Don’t use the number in the email or text. If you want to call the company that supposedly sent the message, look up their phone number online.

Remember:

Never give your password to a stranger on the phone, even if they claim to be from a company you recognize.
If you did give out your password, change it right away, update your computer’s security software, run a scan, and delete anything it identifies as a problem.
Make your passwords long, strong, and complex.
Don’t give your bank account, credit card, or personal information over the phone to someone who contacts you out of the blue.
And if you do get a fake email like this, help your community by reporting it to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

As of 2pm yesterday, Ayersville Telephone completed testing to confirm that Brightspeed/CenturyLink had completely fixed their trouble issues that began last week. At that time we returned to our normal routing for all calls. All cellular and telemarketer screening trouble were fixed at that time.

Thank you for your patience,
Ayersville Telephone

Update on the trouble with cellular providers... one step forward; two steps back. Brightspeed has worked with the carrier responsible for the trouble situation with Verizon numbers and they replaced a card in their system to restore service. However, while this card did restore the circuit, it is now running with errors that are causing more problems.

Specifically, inbound calls from cell phones are experiencing 1-way/no audio where the called customers are hearing themselves echoed back. Also, inbound calls from both cell phones and from some long distance carriers are unable to break through our telemarketing do not disturb feature due to a DTMF (in call touch tones) processing issue.

We have added this information to our ticket and contacted those that have assisted in escalating this issue within Brightspeed.

05/09/2023

Due to the continuing service outage between Brightspeed (formerly CenturyLINK) and Verizon, we have worked to re-route most Verizon cell phone calls to our IP Long Distance provider. This new route is currently only available to Ayersville fiber and MetaCOM long distance customers. We are continuing to work on creating a temporary route for those customers still on our copper-based phone service that have no long distance or long distance with another provider.

Calls to 419-438, 439, 789, 956, and 980 numbers should complete now. These calls are being billed directly to the Ayersville Telephone Company and should not appear on your long-distance bills.

Due to porting information limitations, numbers that have been ported to Verizon from Defiance, Ayersville, Arthur, and other areas will still be affected by the continued service outage at Brightspeed (CenturyLINK). For example, a 419-782- # # # # that has been ported will still receive an "All Circuits Are Busy" message.

Thank you for your patience with us. We continue to push Brightspeed (CenturyLINK) to properly correct this problem.
