OEE is three numbers. Most plants measure two of them properly.

Availability has a live board. Performance has a live board. Quality has a spreadsheet somebody updates on Friday from memory.

So the improvement work goes where the data is rather than where the loss is. In a lot of plants the biggest recoverable number is the one on the spreadsheet.

Instrument quality first. It usually changes what you work on next.

The riskiest moment in an AI project isn't the build.

It's the Tuesday three weeks after the build team left. Something behaves unexpectedly, and the person who understands why is no longer on the account.

Almost nobody budgets for that Tuesday. It gets called knowledge transfer, squeezed into the last two days, and delivered as a slide deck nobody opens.

A handover that works looks different. The receiving team runs the system in production while the build team is still there. Not a walkthrough. Custody, with the previous owner in the room.

If an engagement ends and your team can't operate what was built, the job was done badly, however well it performs.

A vision system is good at consistent. Humans are good at unfamiliar.

Automate passes and rejections when validated criteria are met. Route borderline results, unfamiliar features, and insufficient evidence to an inspector with the flagged image and reason for review attached.

The mistake is chasing a higher automation rate. That can push uncertain parts into automatic decisions, when those are exactly the parts worth a closer look.

The inspector owns that decision. They are not the fallback.

Measure defect escapes, not just automation. Track escapes per thousand units against your current baseline.

Three ways to control access to clinical data, and when each is right.

By role, which is simple and gets coarse fast. By relationship, which is what care teams actually need, because a nurse should see their patients and not every patient. By purpose, which is what research and analytics need, and which is the one most systems handle worst.

Most health systems run the first, need the second, and get asked for the third at audit.

These are the patterns we apply across clinical data pipelines, including the ones we build with Workato

Predictive maintenance projects rarely fail because the model is weak. They fail because the failure history is three years of free text that says bearing again, and because the sensors were sampled every five minutes for a monitoring dashboard rather than every second for prediction.

The model needs examples of the failure. If nobody recorded them in a consistent form, there is nothing to learn from, however good the algorithm is.

Start with one asset class and six months of honest logging. That is a cheaper way to find out whether the signal exists at all.

Five questions worth asking any automation vendor before signing. Including us.

Who owns the integration code when this ends. What happens to the field mappings. How is a change request priced after go live. Who is reachable in the week between Christmas and New Year. And what do you need from us that is not written in the statement of work.

The last one catches more projects than the other four combined.

Four stages of getting AI to work. Most teams are stuck on one of them.

Which one is hurting you right now? Vote, then tell us why in the comments. We'll publish the results at the end of the month.

Your system logs that a claim was approved. Compliance asks why.

A usable audit record has four parts. What the system was given. What rule or model acted on it. How confident it was. And who could have intervened, whether or not they did.

Most logs have the first and the last. The middle two are the ones that get asked about, and they are close to impossible to reconstruct after the fact.

Decide this before you build. Retrofitting an audit trail means rerunning history you no longer have.

This is the standard we apply on every agentic workflow we build, including the ones we deliver with Workato

Q4 starts tomorrow.

A new quarter at TalentXM doesn't start with a plan. It starts with plans and commitments made visible, so everyone can see what we said we'd do.

Three things that carry us through the quarter:
→ Clarity on what matters
→ Ownership of what comes next
→ Follow through on what we set out to do

Because progress isn't just what we plan. It's what we build, follow through on, and deliver.

This is Q4 at TalentXM.

Most teams blame the data or security when automation work stalls. Those are real, but they usually show up early and have known fixes.

The one that quietly costs the most is starting the build before anyone agrees what success looks like. That's a scoping problem, not a technology problem, and it's the cheapest of the four to fix.

Which one stalls your team? Tell us in the comments. We'll share what we hear.
