Being the boss means balancing today’s priorities with tomorrow’s goals, supporting your team, solving problems, and occasionally answering the question, “Do you have a minute?” about 47 times before lunch.

Today, we’re giving a well-deserved shoutout to the leaders who keep their teams moving forward.

Happy Boss’s Day to the people who lead, encourage, problem-solve, and somehow keep everything moving in the right direction.

QR codes are convenient because they take us directly from the physical world to an online destination.
That convenience can also make them useful for phishing.
A malicious QR code can direct someone to a fraudulent website designed to collect credentials or other information.
Employees should be cautious with unexpected QR codes received through email, text messages, printed materials or unfamiliar signs.
Ask the same questions you would ask before clicking an unexpected link.
Where did this come from? Was I expecting it? Why am I being asked to sign in?
Convenient doesn't always mean trustworthy.

When an employee leaves, what happens to their accounts?
Offboarding should include more than collecting a laptop and removing someone from the company directory.
Email accounts, cloud applications, remote access, shared files, administrative privileges, and third-party services may all need attention.
Inactive accounts that remain accessible can create unnecessary security exposure.
Create a repeatable onboarding and offboarding process that brings HR, management, and IT together.
People may leave your organization.
Their access shouldn't stay behind.

A stolen password doesn't have to mean a stolen account.
That's one reason multi-factor authentication is so important.
MFA adds another verification requirement beyond a password, making it harder for someone to access an account using stolen credentials alone.
Businesses should prioritize stronger authentication for email, cloud applications, remote access and other important systems.
But don't stop after turning MFA on.
Authentication methods, access policies and suspicious login activity should also be reviewed as part of a broader security strategy.
Passwords still matter.
They just shouldn't be your only line of defense.

Seeing your CEO's name in the "From" field doesn't necessarily mean your CEO sent the email.
Email impersonation can make fraudulent messages appear surprisingly convincing.
Before responding to an unusual request, look beyond the sender's display name. Pay attention to the actual email address, the context of the message and what you're being asked to do.
Requests involving payments, gift cards, credentials, sensitive documents or changes to financial information deserve additional verification.
Cybercriminals want employees to trust what they see.
Good security habits teach employees to verify what matters.

The best time to prepare for a cyber incident isn't while one is happening.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month is an opportunity to look at how prepared your organization is before there's an emergency.
Do employees know how to report suspicious activity? Are critical accounts properly protected? Can important information be recovered? Do you know which systems your business depends on most?
Preparation doesn't eliminate cyber risk.
It can, however, make your organization more difficult to compromise and better prepared to respond.

This October, focus on building security habits that matter the other eleven months of the year.

Most business and IT leaders have added a day’s worth of work to their weeks managing AI risk, thanks to exploding use and a focus on governance that hasn’t resulted in AI readiness.

Businesses that treat technology as part of their growth strategy are often better prepared for new opportunities, changing customer expectations, and emerging security threats.
As you head into Q4, ask yourself one question: Is your technology helping your business grow, or simply helping it get by?
The answer can shape your success well beyond this year.
