🚨 **Hiring Myth Monday #12**

**Myth: Salary is the biggest factor in why someone chooses a job.**

Compensation matters. But it's rarely the only thing candidates consider when evaluating an opportunity.

Commute time, workplace culture, management style, flexibility, and the people they'll work alongside can all influence whether someone accepts a position—and whether they stay.

A competitive salary may attract a candidate, but it doesn't automatically guarantee job satisfaction.

Employers need to look beyond compensation and consider the overall experience they're offering employees.

**The right opportunity isn't always the one with the biggest paycheck.**

đź’¬ Have you ever accepted a position for reasons other than salary?

Doing your job well and creating a great customer experience aren't always the same thing.

Two people can perform the exact same responsibilities, follow the same procedures, and deliver the same service—yet leave someone with completely different impressions.

Sometimes, the difference comes down to the little things. Taking extra time, showing genuine concern, and making someone feel like more than just another task on the schedule.

After spending a week in the hospital, Steve Schaffer experienced that difference firsthand.

It's a reminder that **how we make people feel matters just as much as what we do for them.**

đź’¬ What's something someone has done that turned an ordinary customer experience into an exceptional one?

🚨 Hiring Myth Monday #11

Myth: A gap on a résumé is automatically a red flag.

Six months. A year. Maybe longer.

It’s easy to see that blank space on a résumé and start filling it in with assumptions. But there may be a perfectly reasonable story behind it—and you won't know unless you ask.

A résumé gives you a timeline. A conversation gives you context.

Give candidates the opportunity to explain their story. Ask good questions. Listen to the answer. Then decide whether what you learned makes sense within the bigger picture of their experience.

A gap may be worth discussing. It doesn't have to be an automatic disqualifier.

💬 Do résumé gaps influence how you evaluate a candidate?

Sometimes you're doing all the right things and still waiting for the results to show up.

You’re making the calls. Having the conversations. Following up. Showing up consistently.

And then something shifts.

The important thing to remember is that other people make decisions on their timeline and for their reasons—not yours.

You can’t control when someone else is ready to make a decision. You can control whether you keep doing the behaviors that put you in position when they are.

Don’t stop doing the work just because the results haven’t caught up yet.

đź’¬ What keeps you consistent when the results aren't immediate?

🚨 Hiring Myth Monday #10

Myth: A great hire doesn't need onboarding.

Finding the right person is only the beginning.

Even experienced employees need time to understand how a new organization operates, what success looks like in their role, and how their manager and team communicate.

Onboarding is also an opportunity for managers to learn about their new employees. How do they learn best? How do they respond to feedback? What kind of coaching will help them succeed?

A strong onboarding process helps both sides establish expectations and build an effective working relationship from the start.

A great hire brings the potential. Onboarding helps turn that potential into performance.

đź’¬ What's one thing you wish every employer included in their onboarding process?

🚨 Hiring Myth Monday #9

Myth: If you’re hiring quickly, you must be cutting corners.

A good hiring process doesn’t have to be a long hiring process.

Six interviews, endless conversations, and multiple hoops for candidates to jump through don’t automatically lead to a better decision. What matters is having a structured, consistent process designed to collect the information you actually need.

Know the skills and behaviors required for the role before you begin. Ask the right questions. Gather useful information. Then make the decision.

Hiring quickly isn’t necessarily the problem. Hiring quickly without knowing what you’re looking for is.

đź’¬ How many steps does your hiring process really need?

09/18/2026

Great sales conversations aren’t built around how much you can tell a prospect about your product.

They’re built around how much you can learn about their problem.

It’s easy to jump into features and benefits—especially when silence feels uncomfortable. But when you’re doing most of the talking, you may never uncover what’s actually driving the conversation.

Ask better questions. Listen to the answers. Dig deeper. And be okay with a little silence.

Because your prospect isn’t really asking, “What does your product do?”

They’re asking, “Can you solve the problem that’s keeping me up at night?”

đź’¬ Are you comfortable enough with silence to let your prospects do the talking?

🚨 Hiring Myth Monday

Myth: Assessments slow down the hiring process.

Yes, adding an assessment adds another step. But the number of steps isn’t what determines whether a hiring process is efficient.

Objective data early in the process can help you identify fit, understand the competencies and soft skills that matter for the role, and ask more targeted questions before making a hiring decision.

That extra step on the front end may help eliminate unnecessary steps—and costly mistakes—on the back end.

Faster isn’t always more efficient.

đź’¬ Would you add a step to your hiring process if it helped you make a better decision sooner?

Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, honor the courage of the first responders, and reflect on the strength shown by so many in the days that followed.

We remember those who never came home, those who ran toward danger to help others, and the families whose lives were forever changed.

May we never forget. 🇺🇸

What exactly does TalentThrive do?

It starts with an assessment—but the assessment is only the beginning.

The TalentThrive Snapshot gives organizations a way to step back and look at an individual through a wider lens: their capabilities, their potential, and possibilities that may not be obvious from a résumé, an interview, or even their current role.

That insight can help leaders better understand the people already on their team and make more informed decisions about the people they bring onto it.

Sometimes the potential is already there. You just need a better way to see it.

đź’¬ What could you discover about your people if you looked beyond what they're doing today?
