Stanford University researchers have developed Evo 2, an open-source generative AI model capable of designing novel DNA sequences from scratch. Using this model, the team synthesized nearly 300 entire bacteriophage genomes in a single computational pass. Laboratory testing narrowed the designs down to a powerful 16-phage cocktail that successfully overcame drug resistance in E. coli, paving the way for future AI-driven treatments against superbugs like MRSA.
