Most people only think about DigiD when they need to log in somewhere.

You might use it for taxes, healthcare, education, your pension, or other government services. Most of the time, it just feels like a normal login screen.

But this story shows why digital infrastructure is much bigger than that.

According to NL Times, the Dutch government has blocked the planned takeover of Solvinity by the U.S. company Kyndryl. Solvinity plays a key role in operating DigiD, the digital identity system people use to access Dutch public services.

The decision wasn’t presented as being against American companies specifically. The government said the screening was country-neutral, risk-based, and focused on protecting the public interest.

That’s the important part.

When a system is connected to identity, public services, sensitive data, and national infrastructure, ownership matters. So do security, jurisdiction, and continuity.

CAPTCHA is a website’s way of checking whether a visitor is human or a bot.

It helps reduce spam, fake accounts, and automated attacks.

The name stands for “Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart.”

In other words, it’s a test that should be easy for humans but difficult for bots. Some CAPTCHA systems do more than block bots. They also help create AI training data by asking people to identify words, images, or objects.
