Becoming a Machine Learning Engineer through Xccelerated: What is that like?
Machine learning engineers first and foremost sit at the intersection of software engineering, data science, and DevOps. You work together with data scientists and engineers in a team to build production-ready, scalable machine learning systems.

You like big data tools and programming frameworks to ensure that the raw data gathered from data pipelines are used to build production-ready scalable applications driven by data and AI. Typical challenges you will face are automating model deployments and retraining, model and data versioning, model and data testing, monitoring models in production and deploying and monitoring cloud infrastructure.

Are you something like this?
• A data scientist or machine learning engineer with at least one year of relevant work experience
• With a technical bachelor’s or master’s degree (e.g. I, computer science, mathematics, physics or a related field)
• Have statistical knowledge, but mainly experienced with end to end systems and able to run, deploy and monitor these.
• The ambition to futureproof your career, working in the most advanced big data and science environments
• Willing to learn and have interest in working at one of our data-driven partner companies (e.g. Heineken, ING, Randstad Group, FedEx, Vattenfall)

And what does the Machine Learning Engineering program look like?
Each program (Machine Learning Engineering, Data Engineering, Cloud Development and Cloud Engineering) begins with a month-long bootcamp training to prepare you for the first day at your future-employer. From that moment, you’ll work four days a week at the location of one of our partner organizations and one day a week at the Xccelerated office — which involves ongoing training and project support from our technical leads. At the end of each program, our xccelerators enjoy an extraordinarily high rate of success in their career by joining the partner organization directly. A winning long-term solution for everyone.

Becoming a Data Engineer through Xccelerated: What is that like?
Data Engineers are first and foremost the software engineers of the analytical world. You like to help data-driven organizations move, process and store data by building data warehouses, data lakes, lake houses and distributed data meshes. Sometimes you’ll also collaborate with data scientists to deploy, monitor and scale machine learning solutions and data products.

Part of the job is dealing with a variety of data types and formats; different data velocity from batch to near-real time; and scale from one machine to distributed systems. You’re not afraid to get your hands dirty with infrastructure, either in the cloud or on-premise. And most importantly you apply engineering practices to pick the best tools for the job, balancing complexity, maintainability, speed of development, quality and value.

• A software engineer or -developer with at least one year of relevant work experience

Becoming a Cloud Developer through Xccelerated: What is that like?
Cloud Developers are first and foremost, involved in product development. You’ll write client-facing software by making use of cloud-native development techniques. This can include back-end development, front-end work, but also data and application integration, and application deployment.

What makes you different from most software developers, is that you know how to make the most out of cloud service offerings. You understand what it takes to develop your application to run on serverless technologies, or using container orchestration tooling, as well as how to architect for using other cloud-native services. You live by "you build it, you run it, you own it" and you’re not afraid to deploy, monitor, scale and operate the software you’ve written.

What’s the program like?
The Xccelerated program kicks off with a month-long, full-time bootcamp training. Here we focus on topics like writing deployable code, writing pythonic code, testing methodologies, principles behind scalable and robust code and how to process data on large scale with Apache Spark and stream data with Kafka. We will also cover containerization with docker and several deployment strategies.

Some topics may sound familiar, but we’ll go more in depth into principles and best practices to prepare you for the next step in your career.

After the bootcamp, you’ll spend a full year working on-site four days a week at one of our partner companies and returning one day a week to our Xccelerated office in Amsterdam. During these “return” days, you split your time between theory and practice—gaining project guidance and coaching from our supervising consultants to support you in the partner company’s projects, while also diving deeper into training topics not covered in the bootcamp. It’s always about continuous learning. Besides the technical aspect, we’ll focus on your personal development as well.
