Did you know that cybersecurity researchers have documented thousands of Nigerian bank credentials actively listed for sale on dark web marketplaces

The dark web is a portion of the internet accessible only through anonymising software like Tor. Within it sit marketplaces that operate like legitimate e-commerce platforms — search functions, customer reviews, dispute resolution systems, and vendor ratings — except that the products are stolen identities, credentials, and financial data.

How Nigerian credentials end up there:

A user clicks a phishing link in an SMS claiming their account is locked. The page is a pixel-perfect replica of their bank's login portal. They enter their username and password. The credentials are harvested immediately and sold within hours.

A company's internal system is breached through an unpatched vulnerability. The database containing employee and customer credentials is extracted and packaged for sale — thousands of records at a time.

The victim never receives a notification. Many only discover their credentials are compromised when their account is accessed from an unrecognised device, or when a transaction they did not authorise appears.

Data breach notification in Nigeria remains inconsistent despite the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR). Most breaches affecting Nigerian users are discovered through third-party threat intelligence services — the same services cybersecurity professionals at IDA are trained to use.

These are not abstract risks. They are active, ongoing, and growing.

And just like that, Cohort 2 has reached its final class. 🎓

From the first lessons to practical assignments, projects, assessments and countless hours of learning, our Cohort 2 fellows have come a long way across all our training tracks.

For Data Analysis, the final class brought fellows into Power BI, strengthening their ability to turn data into interactive dashboards and meaningful business insights.

For Cybersecurity, the focus was on revision, giving fellows the opportunity to revisit key concepts, clarify difficult areas and reinforce what they have learned throughout the programme.

Across the other tracks, fellows also wrapped up their learning journey with continued practice and hands-on sessions.

This may be the final class for Cohort 2, but it marks the beginning of a new stage: taking the knowledge, skills and projects built at IDA into real-world opportunities.
