Photoshop didn’t actually start at Adobe.

In 1987, brothers Thomas and John Knoll began developing a simple program to display grayscale images on a computer. What started as a small project eventually evolved into an image-editing tool.

They initially called it Display, later renamed it ImagePro, and eventually Photoshop.

In 1988, Adobe partnered with the brothers and later acquired the rights to distribute the software. Photoshop 1.0 was released in 1990.

What began as a simple solution to a grayscale display problem eventually became one of the most recognizable names in digital creativity.

Sometimes, the biggest innovations start with solving a small problem.

Atlassian Introduces Code Context to Power Smarter Coding Agents

Atlassian has launched Code Context, a new capability in its Teamwork Graph that gives developers, Rovo, and coding agents secure, permission-aware access to source code across large, multi-repository codebases.

It connects Jira work, Confluence knowledge, pull request history, and now source code into one unified system, helping agents move from hypothesis to verification with relevant context before taking action, and producing better output with fewer tokens along the way.

Admins can get started simply by opting in and enabling code indexing in their Atlassian org settings.

In 1982, TIME magazine named the computer its “Machine of the Year.”

That year, TIME broke with its annual tradition of naming a “Man of the Year” and instead selected the personal computer as its “Machine of the Year.”

TIME publisher John A. Meyers explained that while several people could have represented 1982, nothing better symbolized the year and its significance for the future than the computer.

It was the first time TIME selected a non-human subject, recognizing how computers were beginning to transform the way people work, communicate, learn, and live.

More than four decades later, that transformation has gone far beyond what people imagined, from personal computers and smartphones to cloud computing and AI.
