BMW M5 2016
Problem - car sometimes starting sometimes not, if started nobody knows when stops and all systems have own life. Christmas tree on dash and idrive.
In this condition car came to me. Of course was recovered as owner would not take the risk to drive.
First diagnose shows pt_can network problems.
Multimeter on cans 7-13.5V on cans -flat line. Indicates cans shorted to positive.
Next step (longest) to find what cause it. Can be any unit connected to power train cans or wiring somewhere.
We found shotrt to positive in safety belt, driver side called REMARE -look at screen from ista -it's green (no faults).
REMARE and FZD replaced, flashed and coded. All essential initializations done.
Root cause -very wet interior. Soon roof allows water to get inside the car.
Dryining holes blocked.
After soon roof initialization even glass started looking better -more aligned to body.
Anyway job done -beautiful M5 back on the road
