Russell Horton officially joins us today and he will be working with our executive team and our investors, Five Arrows, to support the next phase of our growth.

He brings over 30 years in UK telecoms, IT, and cyber security, including 26 acquisitions and deep experience of scaling and integrating businesses.

Most recently he was CEO of FluidOne, which he grew from £26m to £110m revenue over seven years through nine acquisitions, while building a world-class service culture. Alongside this he chaired CSA Cyber, growing it from under £1m to £10m revenue and into one of the most accredited cyber businesses in the UK.

At Croft, Russell's focus is helping us deliver our vision: to set the standard for service as one team, expertly delivering future-ready IT, Cyber, AI, and Communications for mid-sized businesses.

He is a strong advocate of secure AI adoption and of the simple principle that has driven his career, that happy, motivated teams deliver great service to customers.

We're looking forward to what we can achieve together.

The UK government released their latest findings on cyber security for large and small businesses and it’s not looking good.

Even where some defences are improving, businesses declined on a number of cyber hygiene measures after temporary increases last year.

The study also found a decrease in the number of SMEs undertaking assessments and having a business continuity plan that covered cyber security

Not all cybersecurity solutions are created equal.

EDR, MDR, and XDR may sound indistinguishable from each other, but they offer very different levels of protection and support. Choosing the right approach depends on your internal expertise, risk exposure, and operational needs.

Understanding these differences is key to building a resilient security strategy that protects your business around the clock.

Cyber security can feel like an industry built on acronyms. ICT, SIEM, TDR, the language alone is enough to put most business owners off engaging with it properly.

So let's try a different way of looking at it.

Think of your business as a house. A rusty lock on the front door might deter opportunists, but it won't stop anyone who's actually determined. Upgrade to an alarm and some window locks and you're doing better, but it's still not what you'd call secure.

The gold standard looks different. Motion sensors. CCTV. Round-the-clock monitoring and a control room that catches what everything else misses. That's what proper cyber protection does for your business: layers up your defences so that if someone tries to get in, they're spotted and stopped before any real damage is done.
SMEs across the UK lose significant sums to cyber attacks every year, and the threat isn't standing still. Making sure your business has the right protection in place is exactly what we're here to help with.

What happens when senior legal IT leaders step away from the noise?

This week, Croft was proud to sponsor and take part in an exclusive Legal IT Leaders retreat at the magnificent Chateau Canet, Wine & Hospitality in Carcassonne, France. Under the theme "Uncorking Innovation", the occasion brought together selected legal IT leaders and a handful of technology partners for two days of high-quality discussion, insight and shared thinking around the future of technology in the legal sector.

No hard selling. No crowded exhibition hall. No rushed conversations. Just experienced people, thoughtful debate and open discussion around the challenges and opportunities facing law firms today - from resilience, security and compliance to mobility, AI, innovation and the evolving role of technology in legal service delivery.

Lisa Healey and Darren Szukalski represented Croft throughout the retreat, contributing to the conversations and sharing perspectives on the challenges law firms are experiencing today.

The setting helped too. From the speaker sessions and roundtable discussions to the vineyard walks, evening conversations, great food and wonderful wine, the retreat created the kind of environment where meaningful conversations took shape and all perspectives were thoughtfully explored.

A huge thank you to the organisers Annette Brown and Roy Harris for creating such a distinctive and valuable retreat concept and to everyone who contributed so openly across the two days.

Croft is deeply proud to have been part of this important discussion.
