Where to take a dip in the interior of the province of Almería
In summer, with the high temperatures that are recorded, bathing becomes the most recurring activity. Almería has a wide variety of beaches, but it doesn't stop there, inland, there are numerous hidden corners and natural oases ideal for enjoying a good swim. With this route you will be able to discover 7 places that you can enjoy in the interior of the province, some better known than others.
1. Nacimiento del Río Aguas en Sorbas
The first destination on this route is located around a wetland, in the middle of a large arid area. Along the Aguas River, inhabit numerous birds, species typical of the area and vegetation. To get to this point, it is necessary to go to a small town known as Los Molinos del Río Aguas. There is a small space where you can leave the car to start the route. You can access the pools through paths that run parallel to the river. The route is simple and completely free.
2. Balsa de las Peñuelas (Abla)
On the night of San Juan it was customary to bathe in the waters of the Las Peñuelas raft. This summer is the perfect opportunity to recover this tradition. One kilometer from Abla, and just by going down a few slate steps, you can easily access the pool, built in masonry. It is considered one of the best works of hydraulic engineering in the area. 3. El Aljibe de Fuencaliente en Serón
If you fancy a refreshing swim, you have to visit the Fuencaliente Cistern, located in the municipality of Serón. The thermal waters of the cistern are continuous and have become the main source of irrigation. It is an area full of vegetation and fauna, where you can enjoy a relaxing bath. Access to the small pool can be through the Almanzora valley, by the Vía Verde or by the Fuencaliente district itself. Access to the place with animals is allowed and it is completely free.
4. El charcón, fuente del Algarrobo (Líjar)
Líjar is a municipality that houses some ideal corners to enjoy this summer, one of them is the Fuente del Algarrobo or better known as the Charcón. This small place, located between the mountains of the Sierra de Líjar, is a reservoir that is filled with water to serve as an irrigation source. It is an idyllic place to enjoy a free bath.
5. La Fuente de San Ginés (Purchena
The Almanzora valley is full of oases to discover. The birth of the San Ginés fountain, in Purchena, is one of them. The corner is hidden between vegetation and a small wooden bridge. The source of the Almanzora river pours its waters to form this small oasis. Access is through the municipality and is free.
6. Balsa de Cela (Lúcar)
Continuing through the Almanzora valley, between the municipalities of Tíjola, Lúcar and Armuña is the Cela pond. This hot spring has a constant flow of 42 liters per second, which is maintained throughout the year between 22 and 24 degrees. Its waters are the main source of irrigation in the area, but they also refresh all its visitors. You can access it for free.
7. Las Canales de Padules
We will end this route through some of the idyllic oases in the interior of the Almeria province, on the Andarax river. Between waterfalls, pools, canyons and nooks, the river, as it passes through the municipality of Los Padules, is considered a Natural Monument by the Junta de Andalucía. The Canales de Padules have a 2-kilometer route, where you can enjoy a bath in the waters coming from the Sierra Nevada and the Sierra de Gádor. The route to access this point is simple and free.
