SnipeSearch’s new GlassEye algorithm has hit the ground running with over 30 million keywords indexed in its first 24 hours.

We’ve already mapped 0.0578% of googles visible search horizon, targeting the high-intent content that actually defines the modern web.

This is our roadmap to total data independence, allowing us to move away from third-party meta-feeds and rely entirely on our own proprietary Local, Distributed, and GlassEye indexes.

We are building toward a future of complete data independence at SnipeSearch.

Right now, we rely on a meta-search access point of over 100 billion records and our own distributed index of over 2.29 billion. But the goal is to cut the cord on third-party dependencies entirely.

To do that, we’ve developed GlassEye, an algorithm designed to map and match the 'Visible Search Horizon' that Google maintains. That isn't the whole of the web, it’s the critical subset of content that people actually see and interact with when they search.

We’ve just completed the first pass of the GlassEye test, and we’ve already mapped 0.0129% of that target horizon in just a few hours. The second pass is running now.

Something we have been working toward for a long time is nearly complete.

Every search engine you use that generates AI results is running a data centre that draws enormous amounts of power, far more than a traditional search. The industry knows this. It is why the big players have been quietly walking back their climate commitments while offering you an AI toggle as a substitute for actually doing anything about it. The toggle does not turn the infrastructure off. It just gives you something to point at.

We’ve spent the last several months cutting our connections to those providers entirely. Video search now runs through our own platform and the PeerTube network. Image and sound search are live on human-curated signals and opensearch. Web search is the last piece, 95% done, with Mark 5 completing it within three months.

We also plant trees through Plant With Purpose from our ad revenue. Not one per search, but consistently, and it grows as we do.

We’ve been building a search without the surveillance since 2005. The reason to use it just got bigger.

Snipe Group Limited is today announcing the full launch of Snipe.pics, a federated image-sharing platform built on Pixelfed and the ActivityPub protocol. It is the latest service to join the SnipeSearch Fediverse ecosystem, an infrastructure that has been expanding steadily since our Mastodon instance launched in November 2022, and that now spans social networking, federated video, and image hosting across servers in four countries.

The Fediverse stands at a crossroads. Decentralised social networking promised a world free from surveillance capitalism, where users own their data and communities govern themselves. But there’s a problem nobody wants to talk about: keeping the lights on.

Every year, thousands of Fediverse instances vanish without warning. Entire communities, years of posts, connections, and conversations disappear overnight because a volunteer administrator ran out of money, time, or patience. The dream of decentralisation is real, but so is the bill for bandwidth, storage, and uptime.

What Actually Changed?

To understand what this upgrade means, it helps to know how Snipesocial's infrastructure works.

All your photos and videos are stored regionally using Digital Ocean droplets. Everything flows through Cloudflare for speed and caching (and always has). This keeps media delivery fast and distributed globally.
