BT has announced a price increase of almost 7% for millions of households signed up to its landline and broadband services.

The company, which supplies 9.5m households said landline charges will rise by £1 a month, to almost £18, while the cost of the popular Anytime calls package is set to jump 50p a month to £7.95.

The company’s broadband customers will see an across the board hike of just under 7%. BT said the cost to making a call to UK landlines and 0870 numbers will go up from 9.58p a minute to 10.24p. Set up fees will be rising by the same amount, meaning a one minute call from a BT landline will soon costs a minimum of 27p. Broadband customers will see prices rise by just under 7%.

BT's confirmed price increases come into effect as of the 1st December 2014.

• Standard line rental for direct debit customers – £16.99/month, up from £15.99/month (6.25% increase).

• Unlimited anytime call plan (on top of line rental) – £7.45/month, up from £7/month (6.42% increase).

• Set-up fee for landline calls – 15.97p, up from 15p (6.46% increase).

• Broadband prices – will increase by as much as 6.49% (incl broadband + unltd weekend calls package at £13.80/month, up from £13 and BT Infinity 1 + unltd weekend calls package at £19.15, up from £18).

• Calls to UK landlines and 0870 numbers – 9.58p/minute, up from 9p/minute (6.44% increase).

• Call return – 21.19p, up from 19.9p (6.48% increase).

• Residential calls to the Timeline speaking clock – 38.97p, up from 36.6p (6.47% increase).

The cost of line rental is increasing by 45p from £14.50 to £14.95 per month – 1.1 per cent higher than inflation. TalkTalk last put up its line rental charges in May this year, from £13.80 a month to £14.50.
