On 23–24 September, Code4Europe partners and community members met in Brussels for the Consortium Meeting and the EU Code Week Community Meeting.

The Consortium Meeting focused on the project’s Year 2 progress, key results and upcoming priorities – highlighting the impact of the 311,350 activities registered to the website- , while the EU Code Week Community Meeting brought participants together for discussions, workshops and planning of future Code Week activities around coding, robotics, AI and more.

CYRIC was represented at both meetings by Sophia Tosounova, contributing to the discussions and exchange of experiences within the Code4Europe community.

CYRIC at ELECTROSPIN 2026 | 9th International Conference on Electrospinning

1–4 September 2026 | Padova, Italy

CYRIC was represented by Dr. Georgia Papaparaskeva, Postdoctoral Researcher and Coordinator of the FibroMAV project, at the 9th International Conference on Electrospinning (ELECTROSPIN 2026), held in Padova, Italy.

The conference brought together leading researchers, scientists, engineers, and industry experts from around the world to exchange knowledge and discuss recent advances in electrospinning science and technology.

The scientific programme covered developments in nanofiber fabrication, advanced polymer and composite materials, process optimization, and emerging applications across biomedical, environmental, and industrial sectors.

During the conference, Dr. Papaparaskeva delivered an oral presentation related to the development of “Multicomponent Electrospun Polymer-based Nanocomposite Fibrous Membranes Containing Metallic Nanoparticles.”

Participation in ELECTROSPIN 2026 provided a valuable opportunity for scientific exchange, international networking, and exploration of emerging research directions.

Through participation in international scientific events, CYRIC continues to strengthen its engagement with the global research community and support innovation in advanced materials and emerging technologies.

A special day for CYRIC EU-BIC, proudly sponsoring Paralympic athlete Stelios Malakopoulos / Στέλιος Μαλακόπουλος Parathlete , whose journey carries a powerful message of courage, determination and belief in the future.

The day included a visit to the Presidential Palace, where we had the opportunity to meet the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Νίκος Χριστοδουλίδης - Nikos Christodoulides , adding special meaning to a day celebrating sport and perseverance.

Representing CYRIC , Nicos Nicolaou joined students from Akropoli Lyceum and Kyriakos Neocleous Gymnasium in Engomi for a symbolic run.

At Akropoli Lyceum, Stelios shared his inspiring story with students. After losing both legs in an accident, he went on to compete at the Paralympic Games. His message was clear: “Never give up” and keep pursuing your dreams.

During his visit to CYRIC , Stelios brought this message of determination to our own community. As a deep tech company and incubator supporting young entrepreneurs, we see these values reflected in the founders we work with. His example is a powerful reminder to keep learning, overcome setbacks and never give up on an ambitious vision.

From woody waste to sustainable agricultural solutions.

On the 20th of October 2026, CYRIC participated in the 1st Agri Tech Cyprus: From Farm to Future in Larnaca, organised by Larnapreneurs.

CYRIC was represented by Dr Georgia Papaparaskeva, Postdoctoral Researcher and RE-GreenVOCs Project Coordinator; Varnis Charalambous, Manager of the R&D Programs Department; and Giorgos Tsaparellas, Senior Sales Engineer.

Our contribution focused on turning woody waste into sustainable and smart solutions for agriculture and livestock farming. Through RE-GreenVOCs, we highlighted how converting woody waste into biochar can support soil health and help reduce odorous emissions from manure.

The programme included a keynote address by Mr Christos Senekis, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of the Republic of Cyprus, alongside presentations and discussions connecting agriculture, research, technology and entrepreneurship.

Thank you to Larnapreneurs for bringing these communities together and creating opportunities for collaboration.

Connecting research with the needs of farmers and livestock producers is key to putting sustainable agricultural solutions into practice.

Proud to support defence innovation in Cyprus!

CYRIC EU-BIC and its Gravity Ventures Incubator & GRAVITY Fund supported EUDIS Defence Hackathon 2026 that was held on 15–17 October at Pavilion Nicosia.

Our CEO, Panayiotis Philimis served on the jury and presented the second-place award, while Kyriakos Fialoyiannos and Moyses Moyseos supported the participating teams as mentors.

Gravity Ventures Incubator participated as an Ecosystem Partner, awarding “Mentoring and Support Services” to Machaon Technologies and PULSAR. Congratulations to both startups!

A big thank you to the organisers, teams, mentors and partners for bringing ideas, expertise and energy to the event!

Innovation, creativity, and collaboration came together during the INVESTech COVE Hackathon and Pitching Day, organised as part of WP6: Promoting Innovation and Entrepreneurship in VET.

Under the theme “ICT for Social Inclusion,” students explored how technology can address real-world social challenges and make everyday life more accessible and inclusive.

15 student teams took on the challenge, developing innovative concepts and working prototypes before stepping onto the stage to pitch their solutions. Their presentations highlighted the potential of young innovators to use technology as a tool for positive social change.

These activities were implemented through two key tasks of the INVESTech COVE project:

T6.4 – Organisation of Hackathon, led by Frederick University Cyprus .

T6.5 – Pitching Days, led by CYRIC – Cyprus Research and Innovation Center

On 25 September, European Researchers’ Night 2026 took place at the Cyprus State Fair, bringing together science, creativity and innovation.

CYRIC joined the event with hands-on demonstrations and conversations, presenting work from IRONPLAN, GASPOF , Sofin Project , Conserwa , Green-HIT, NIAGARA, UrbaQuantum , INVESTech COVE , GroundWork, EU Code Week , MultiLab , DAIry 4.0 , Re-GreenVOCs, ONE-BLUE, PhotonMed, AEOLUS, FibroMav and SYMPHONY.

CYRIC also presented “From Research to Application: Developing Innovative Solutions with Real-World Impact.”

👏 Varnis Charalambous represented CYRIC live on stage, introducing our work and inspiring the next generation of innovators.

The whole supported the event in different ways, both behind the scenes and on-site, making our participation a true team effort.

On 15 September, CYRIC took part in the INVESTech COVE Summer School organised by Center for Social Innovation - CSI , under the theme ‘’ Promoting entrepreneurship of women in ICT’’. The activity was addressed to female learners aged 16 and above, with the aim of encouraging them to explore studies and career paths in ICT.

CYRIC was represented by Panayiota Demosthenous and Sofia Tosounova, were as part of the session “Technology Solving Real-World Problems,” Panayiota presented examples of how an initial problem can be developed into an idea, a prototype and eventually a solution with market potential.

The presentation drew on practical CYRIC examples, including applications related to food safety and health, linking technological development with real needs and entrepreneurial opportunities. The session also included a practical demonstration of fluorescence spectroscopy, showing how the immobilisation of an analyte on a sensor surface and its interaction with fluorescently labelled antibodies can produce measurable changes in fluorescence intensity.

A prototype rarely works perfectly the first time.

Components may not communicate correctly. Measurements can be unstable. Power consumption may be too high. A design that works in the laboratory may behave differently in the field.

Engineers must also balance performance, size, cost, reliability, manufacturing and usability.
This requires repeated testing, troubleshooting and redesign.

At CYRIC, prototyping is an iterative process that transforms early concepts into functional systems. The setbacks are not separate from engineering progress—they provide the information needed to build a better solution.
