Spent a week camping and kayak fishing with the family at Eagle Point which has great access to both Jones Bay, Eagle Point Bay, the Mitchell River and the silt jetties.

Our goal was to pick up some tailor for the smoker and then try for some flathead and bream. The fishing was phenomenal and plenty of tailor was caught out in the bay with some being also caught in the river. The flathead were on fire with the average size being about 50cm! The largest for the trip was a 70cm specimen which hit a larger deep diving hard body lure on the first cast! Plenty of bream were caught but all of them were small.

The highlight of the trip was putting the wife and kids onto some good sized flat ties although it was tricky landing the flatties with my one year old on my lap and my three year old at the front of the Hobie compass!

We were off grid for seven days in a caravan with minimal solar as it was overcast and we were camped under trees. We only used 40 percent of our batteries running our lights and freezer plus charging our phones and all the kayak batteries.

Here's the video of the 70cm flathead caught on our recent trip to Eagle Point. Oliver's filming skills have improved although he still likes to film his gumboots for anyone who's seen our cod video😅
