Aeon 7 has a release date — Wednesday, September 9!

Katie Gillespie — Special Collections & Archives Program Manager — announced the date at the August Aeon Users Group, along with demos of the latest features. A few highlights from the meeting:

• Multi-factor authentication is on by default. Every staff user sets it up on first login with an authenticator app.
• Single sign-on is now available for staff accounts. SAML or OIDC, configured in Customization Manager, with a test option so you can check it before rolling it out to everyone.
• Administrators can email a staff member an invitation to connect their existing Aeon account to SSO, and Aeon links the two automatically.
• Your existing field customizations come across. There is a field customizations table in Customization Manager with an option to import what you've already built, so you're not rebuilding it.
• Client addons now come from a catalog inside Customization Manager rather than files you track down and install — you pick one from the list and switch it on. Among them, Batch Field Updates sets a request field during batch processing instead of one transaction at a time, and writes a history entry recording what changed.
• New documentation goes live with the release. Release webinars start September 10 on alternating Wednesdays and Thursdays, and drop-in office hours start September 14.
• Two Aeon institutions already running the release candidate walked through how they're planning to roll the new web client out to all their staff.

DOI isn't mapped in your ILLiad OpenURL table by default. And mapping it is only the first step to leveraging this field for more powerful workflows.

It also needs to come through from your database, be present in your web request form, and be added to your staff layout before you'll see it anywhere useful. Kerry Keegan walked through that and a lot more at this month's ILLiad Users Group, all on OpenURL.

Kerry reminds us that if your ILLiad web pages work, your OpenURL already works too. What's left is tweaking — some in the originating database, some in ILLiad's OpenURL Mapping table.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our colleague and friend, Angela Mott. Angela was a beloved member of the Atlas family, and so many of you had the pleasure of working with her over the years.

Her kindness, dedication, and care for the people she served touched everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed.

Our thoughts are with Angela's family and loved ones.

Get an early look at the new Ares web client!

The browser-based Ares client keeps taking shape, and our product team is pulling back the curtain on the latest additions — the tools that help your staff organize, validate, and move through requests faster.

In this live session we'll walk through:
✅ Custom queues and configurable layouts
✅ Course and user validation
✅ Queue processing with filtering
✅ A preview of features still in development — see them before they're released
✅ Live Q&A with the Atlas Systems Ares team

Because these features are still in development, it's also your chance to weigh in and help shape them before they ship.

Glasgow, here we come!

Atlas Systems is proud to be a sponsor of the Archives & Records Association Annual Conference, 5–7 August 2026. If you're heading to Glasgow, come and find me at Table 11.

What we'll be talking about this year is less "here's a new product" and more "here's how the pieces fit together":

📚 ArchivesSpace — the leading open-source archival collection management application. Atlas is a Registered Service Provider, offering hosting, migration, and implementation services.

📋 Aeon — request management, workflow automation, and reading-room orchestration for special collections. Purpose-built for the way archives actually work.

🔐 Cardea — cloud-based badge and access control for reading rooms, designed for cultural heritage institutions from the ground up, with native Aeon integration.

Three tools, one ecosystem, built around a simple idea: description, discovery, request, and access should flow through systems designed to speak the same language — and your data should always remain yours to query, export, and take with you.

Come and have a chat. Bring your questions, your workflow headaches, and your wish list.

New Orleans, here we come!

The Atlas team is heading to the Society of American Archivists 2026 Annual Meeting, July 29 – August 1. Come find us at Booth 512 on the exhibit floor.

This year we're bringing:

🆕 Aeon v7 and the new staff web client — the biggest step forward Aeon has taken in years. See a live demo of the new browser-based interface that eliminates desktop installs while keeping everything you already rely on under the hood.

🔐 A first look at Cardea — our new cloud-based access control platform, purpose-built for libraries, archives, and museums, with native Aeon integration.

📚 ArchivesSpace services — as an ArchivesSpace Registered Service Provider, we're always up for a conversation about hosting, migration, or implementation.

Stop by Booth 512 anytime during the exhibit hall hours — we'd love to hear what you're working on and show you what's new.

The new browser-based Ares client is taking shape, and we're pulling back the curtain on one of its most-requested capabilities: a redesigned roles and permissions system.
Join the Atlas Systems Ares product team for a live preview. We'll walk through how the new client lets you control who can see and do what, show how access is configured and managed in real time, and answer your questions live. Because this is a preview of a feature still in development, your feedback can directly shape what ships.
