The Intracortical Visual Prosthesis (ICVP) system has reached a key clinical milestone after neurosurgeons successfully implanted a wireless device featuring 544 electrodes into a participant at Rush University System for Health. Developed by the Illinois Institute of Technology and its partners, ICVP completely bypasses damaged eyes and optic nerves to transmit artificial vision signals directly to the brain’s visual cortex.

An early-stage clinical trial co-led by Washington University in St. Louis has found that a personalized DNA cancer vaccine designed to target up to 40 unique tumor proteins stimulates an immune response against aggressive glioblastoma brain tumors. By transforming “cold” tumors into targets visible to the body’s immune system, the vaccine successfully doubled historical survival rates for a subset of participants – with one patient remaining completely recurrence-free nearly 5 years after surgery.

A WashU Medicine-led clinical trial has found that a personalized vaccine to treat glioblastoma appears to increase recurrence-free survival in a subset of patients after surgery.

Following a majority acquisition by Hyundai, Boston Dynamics is reportedly facing intense pressure and executive turnover as its parent company demands a massive production surge of “tens of thousands” of Atlas robots for its automotive plants. While the company recently showcased a production-ready factory concept at CES, internal reports suggest a significant gap between current output (just 4 robots per month) and the aggressive manufacturing scale required to stay ahead of rising competitors like Tesla.

Ex-employees from Boston Dynamics say the board is frustrated by delays as competitors nip at its heels.

Founded by Paul Kant and Maren Cordts, Photreon grew out of the Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT) and has developed a grid-independent solar panel system that uses photocatalysis to split water directly into hydrogen and oxygen without the need for electricity or traditional electrolyzers. By utilizing common materials and a modular design, this technology aims to lower costs and infrastructure barriers – allowing industrial sites to generate green hydrogen on-site.

– Interesting Engineering's Arman Tripathi

Photreon aims to boost the hydrogen economy with photoreactor panels that produce fuel directly from sunlight and water.
