Innovation in public safety starts by listening to the people doing the work. 📢

During a recent GeoComm Ride Along with the North Carolina 9-1-1 Board and Raleigh-Wake County Emergency Communications, our team joined Executive Director Pokey Harris and other public safety professionals to see how GIS data supports call routing, dispatch, and statewide coordination.

We heard how North Carolina's 9-1-1 community navigated Hurricane Helene and watched telecommunicators manage multiple systems, reinforcing an important truth: meaningful innovation comes from understanding real workflows. Those insights help us identify opportunities to reduce manual processes, strengthen integrations, and make critical location information easier to access when seconds matter.

These experiences help us become a better partner - and ensure the work we do stays connected to the real-world needs of public safety.

Last week, GeoComm stepped into the world of the public safety professionals who use our technology every day.

During our first in-person ride-along with MARC, we visited with numerous PSAPs from across the region at our gracious host's brand-new facility in Lee's Summit.

Sitting alongside telecommunicators, listening to live calls, and seeing GeoComm Maps used in real time brought the mission into sharper focus. Every call requires people to interpret complex information and make critical decisions—often in seconds.

We learned which GIS data matters most, how agencies are approaching AI, and where public safety professionals need technology to go next.

That’s the value of a ride-along: seeing the work as it happens, listening to the people doing it, and turning those insights into technology that better supports them and the communities they serve.

Today, members of the GeoComm team came together to pack meals as part of the 9/11 Day Meal Pack initiative. Alongside 50,000 volunteers in more than 50 U.S. cities, we helped support a nationwide effort to pack 18 million meals for people and families facing hunger.

Through service, we honor those whose lives were lost, recognize the courage of first responders, and carry forward the unity and compassion shown in the days following September 11.
