When a 9-1-1 call comes from inside a building, the map can’t stop at the front door.

As emergency response moves indoors, responders need more than an address. They need trusted GIS data that can help identify floors, rooms, interior pathways, and critical infrastructure. That’s where the NENA Indoor GIS Data Model Working Group is helping move the industry forward: creating a common framework for indoor GIS data so NG9-1-1 systems can better support accurate routing, stronger situational awareness, and safer response.

At NENA 2026, GeoComm’s Keri Brennan, GISP, ENP, will join Brooks Shannon, ENP, and Jillian Ramoly to share how the NENA Indoor Data Model Document is being built to support NG9-1-1 systems and help turn complex indoor spaces into actionable emergency response data.

At the 2026 Safer Buildings Coalition Wireless Tech & Policy Summit, GeoComm joined leaders across public safety, wireless technology, policy, school safety, and organizations like Make Our Schools Safe (MOSS) in Washington, DC for two days focused on the opportunities and challenges at the intersection of wireless policy and wireless technology, including the role of initiatives like Alyssa’s Law in strengthening emergency response in schools.

This event brings together the people working toward a shared mission: wireless connectivity that works in every building, for every user. For GeoComm, that mission connects directly to a critical public safety challenge: when an emergency happens indoors, responders need more than a call, they need accurate, actionable location information.

Across New Mexico, 9-1-1 GIS teams are working through a shared challenge: how to keep GIS data accurate, aligned, and ready to support NG9-1-1.

At the 2026 New Mexico NENA Dispatch, GIS & Vendor Conference, GeoComm led a full-day GIS for NG9-1-1 training focused on helping agencies move from GIS data challenges to practical readiness steps. The session covered 9-1-1 GIS Data Synchronization Workflows, Boundary and Road Alignment Best Practices, ArcGIS Pro demonstrations, and GeoComm’s role in supporting NM 9-1-1 GIS.

Before the conference, attendees also had the opportunity to submit GIS data for a free analysis. Onsite, those results became the starting point for more focused discussions around real data issues, recommended next steps, and how agencies can continue improving GIS readiness.

Thank you to the attendees and New Mexico APCO/NENA Conference organizers for making this a valuable event and for helping advance practical conversations around GIS readiness for NG9-1-1.
