More of your practice now runs on the internet than you might think.

Cloud charting, online phone systems, card readers, and insurance claims all depend on it. When the connection drops, the schedule stops loading. The front desk cannot check patients in. Calls may not ring through.

Most outages are not your fault. A construction crew cuts a line, or the provider has a problem. Either way, your patients are still in the waiting room.

A second internet connection from a different provider solves this. Your network switches over in seconds. Most patients never notice.

We set up and monitor backup internet for practices across the Triangle. Call us at 919-301-1000.

HHS OCR has completed 19 ransomware breach investigations (Nixon Peabody, April 2026).

Most practices plan for the outage. Few plan for what comes after it. Once systems are back, a reportable breach can open a federal review.

That review asks plain questions. Did you have a current risk analysis? Were safeguards in place? Can you prove it? A penalty is possible. The longer cost is often a multi-year corrective action plan with ongoing monitoring.

We help practices answer those questions before anyone asks them. 919-301-1000.

Laptops, tablets, and phones carry patient data out of your office every day.

Providers chart from home. Managers take a laptop to a second site. Someone leaves a tablet in a car. Sooner or later, a device goes missing.

What happens next depends on preparation. If the drive is encrypted, the data on it is unreadable to whoever finds it. Under HIPAA, that can be the difference between a replaced device and a reportable breach.

Ask three questions about every device. Is the drive encrypted? Can we lock or wipe it remotely? Do we know who has it?

We encrypt, track, and manage every device your team uses. Call us at 919-301-1000.

A password alone no longer protects your practice.

Passwords leak through phishing, reused accounts, and old data breaches. They are then sold and tried against other logins. Your staff may never know theirs was exposed.

Multi-factor sign-in adds a second step. After the password, the user confirms on a phone or a security key. A stolen password cannot complete that step on its own.

Start with three systems. Turn it on for email, for remote access, and for your practice-management software.

We set up multi-factor sign-in across your practice. We also help your staff settle into it during the first week. Call us at 919-301-1000.

OCR has taken 13 enforcement actions under its Risk Analysis Initiative (Nixon Peabody, April 2026).

The initiative has one focus. It checks whether a practice has an accurate and thorough risk analysis. That analysis is the item federal regulators keep citing in ransomware enforcement.

A risk analysis is not a checkbox form. It maps where patient data lives, who can reach it, and what protects it. It should change when your practice changes.

Our Security Risk Check is free. We will tell you where your practice stands, in plain English. No obligation, no jargon. 919-301-1000.

Your front desk is part of your security plan.

They open referrals, invoices, lab results, and insurance notices all day. Most of it is routine. One message may not be.

A convincing email only needs one click. It might ask for a password. It might carry an attachment. It might look like a vendor asking for payment.

Three questions help. Was this email expected? Does the sender address match? Is it pushing urgency, a login, or a payment?

We train staff in short sessions that fit around clinic hours. We also filter email so fewer bad messages arrive at all. 919-301-1000.

Buying a practice means buying its network.

Due diligence usually covers the books, the lease, and the patient base. The IT often gets a quick look at best. Yet it arrives with its own history.

Former staff may still have logins. Vendors may still have remote access to patient data. Backups may run every night and never restore. The last risk analysis may predate the current owner.

Once the deal closes, each of those becomes yours. That includes the compliance exposure.

We review the IT side of an acquisition before you sign. You get a plain-English report and a cost to fix. 919-301-1000.

Average hourly production for a dentist is $475 (Planet DDS, 2025).

That figure gets quoted at single-site practices, where it is already uncomfortable. For a group it is the wrong unit entirely. An outage does not cost you one provider-hour. It costs every provider on the schedule, at every site the incident reaches, for as long as it lasts.

Eight providers across three locations, down for a morning, is roughly a $19,000 morning before you count the overtime to rebuild the day, the hygiene column you cannot recover, and the patients who reschedule somewhere else.

The formula is yours: hourly production, times providers on the schedule, times the length of the outage. We will run it with you and show you what it costs to make that morning unlikely. 919-301-1000.

A third of healthcare breaches begin with an exploited vulnerability (Verizon DBIR, 2025).

That word, exploited, does a lot of quiet work. It means the weakness was already documented. A fix already existed. Nobody had to trick a staff member or guess a password. They used a door that was known to be open.

Practice owners tend to picture a sophisticated attacker studying their network. The more common story is automated scanning that finds an unupdated firewall, a workstation two versions behind, or an imaging server nobody wanted to touch during clinic hours.

It is also the cheapest category of risk to remove, because the work is known and routine. We inventory what you run, keep it current, and report what we found. 919-301-1000.

More than 50 HIPAA cases have been settled or penalized under OCR enforcement initiatives as of January 2026 (Healthcare Compliance Pros, 2026).

Almost every practice we meet has the paperwork. Policies were written, business associate agreements were signed, staff completed training at some point. It sits in a binder or a shared folder and it is genuinely a good start.

What is harder to produce is evidence that any of it still reflects how the practice runs. New staff joined. A new imaging vendor got access. A location opened. Software was replaced. The document did not change with any of it, and that gap is what an investigation actually examines.

Compliance is a program with a maintenance schedule, not a document with a signature date. We keep the risk analysis current, the vendor agreements tracked, and the evidence ready before anyone asks. 919-301-1000.
