Join us in the comments for the first edition of the Andela Book Club!

This week's pick is Think Again by Adam Grant, recommended by Tori Curtis, Senior Director, Head of Product Marketing at Andela.

Here's what she has to say about it:

"I’ve always admired Adam Grant (a leading organizational psychologist) for how he leads with curiosity, not certainty. He makes it okay to question your own thinking, and even better, shows how doing that can make you a stronger teammate, builder, and leader. Think Again is my favorite of his books, it’s a masterclass in staying open, adaptable, and genuinely interested in getting it right, not just being right."

Have you read Think Again? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments. If you haven't, is it going on your reading list?

Anthropic and Blackstone recently put billions into their new bet: that the next big AI opportunity isn't a better model, it's whoever gets AI working inside a business.

On this episode of "AI Reality Check," our SVP of AI Solutions, Kennith "KJ" Jackson, breaks down the news and why implementation has become the real bottleneck for enterprise AI.

AI is now writing a significant share of the world’s code.

Nobody can agree on what that means for the people who used to write it.

Half the internet says engineering is finished. The other half says nothing has changed.

So on 20th August, we're putting the people who actually know in one room and asking them about it.

One evening, one question: what does building software actually look like now?

Not the keynote answer. The honest one.

✦ What's genuinely changed inside teams shipping every day.
✦ What's still hype.
✦ What engineering leaders are hiring for now, and what they've quietly stopped hiring for.
✦ What any of this means for the next few years of an engineering career.

The is a small, invite-only event, because the conversations you have next to someone are usually worth more than the ones happening on stage. Engineering leaders, senior developers, and the people building the teams that ship this stuff.

Speakers announced next week 👀

Congratulations to Fawcett Simiyu, one of our runners up at the first Andela x OpenAI Codex Champions Showcase.

Fawcett’s project, “Nyumba,” is an offline-first peace tech platform built for the people who already do community mediation — local peace committees, religious leaders, and mediators. It tracks community agreements with witness verification and offline storage that syncs once connectivity returns.

By witnessing the disagreements that can bubble up over unclear or untracked mediation results, Fawcett recognized the need for a formal system to document issues and ensure trust and accountability in community mediation processes.

We’re so inspired by Fawcett and the other participants in the program and can’t wait to see how they take their learnings into their future roles and into their communities! A heartfelt ‘thank you’ to all our learners, OpenAI, and Emmanuel Lubanzadio for making this possible!

GenAI can make us faster, but faster doesn't always translate to being better for the team.

On this week's episode of Shift + Tab, Hancheng Cao, Assistant Professor of Information Systems and Operations Management at Emory University, breaks down a simple example: GenAI can draft a polished email in seconds, but if the recipient has to spend extra time decoding what you actually meant, did the organization really gain anything?

It's a reminder that individual productivity and organizational value aren't the same metric.

Check out his full conversation with Cory Hymel in the full episode of Shift + Tab on YouTube now. Link in comments ⬇️

CIOs are under real pressure. Their AI initiatives are funded, but the talent to execute isn't there.

Hiring won't solve fast enough and outsourcing doesn't build lasting capability.

The CIOs pulling ahead are doing two things at once: they're building their team's AI skills while also adding the capacity to deliver now.

Get to know Zak Wijnia, Sales Development Representative at Andela. “I help our clients bridge the AI adoption gap, turning potential into real, measurable impact.”

Zak’s favourite part about working at Andela? “The market pull here is undeniable, there's a massive gap in AI adoption and Andela is perfectly placed to close it. I wanted to be part of something that's going to be huge. I also enjoy getting to finally meet my Google Meet friends in person at the offsites.”

Outside of work he spends his time outdoors and on adventures! “I love snowboarding, I've been doing it my whole life and I’ve been to Japan 4 times in the last 5 years for 2 weeks of snow with the family.”

We asked Zak to share two truths and a lie. Can you spot the lie?
✦ I have 3 passports
✦ French is my first language
✦ I got David Attenborough to sign a fish finger for me
