Two of the five roles Overture Partners opened this week are inside higher education IT environments, one on the platform side and one on identity and infrastructure.

Campus IT teams tend to need both at once, and both on a contract basis, because platform rollouts and directory work rarely stay in separate lanes.

Project Manager, ServiceNow, Higher Education
Contract, Remote

Active Directory Administrator, Higher Education
Contract, Hybrid, Boston, MA

Also open this week across cybersecurity and software development:

Senior Security Architect, AI and Enterprise Security
Permanent Placement, Hybrid

Full Stack / Backend Developer
Contract, Hybrid, Boston, MA

Onsite Coordinator / Lead Full Stack Developer

AI security is creating roles that did not have a defined career path a few years ago.

Today, organizations need professionals who understand issues such as prompt injection, model extraction, insecure retrieval pipelines, AI guardrails and the risks introduced by autonomous agents.

The challenge is that qualified candidates often come from different backgrounds:

• Application security professionals who learned ML
• ML engineers who moved into security
• Red teamers specializing in AI systems

Each path brings different strengths and development needs. Hiring successfully requires evaluating demonstrated work—not simply searching for an exact job title.

Cloud security architects are difficult to hire because the role sits at the intersection of three demanding disciplines:

1. Cloud-platform architecture
2. Security engineering
3. Compliance and governance

A candidate may be highly capable in one area while having meaningful gaps in another. That is why a single overall interview impression is rarely enough.

A stronger approach is to evaluate each domain independently and determine which gaps are acceptable, coachable or require additional support.

The right hire does more than block risky decisions. They help engineering teams move forward through secure, practical architecture.

We’re excited to welcome Scott to the Overture Partners team.

Scott’s path through staffing and sales has been shaped by great mentors, talented teammates, and a strong belief in the power of relationships. From supporting technical hiring in the medical device space to IT staffing across industries — and later learning the value of personalization and a client-first mindset at HubSpot — he’s built his approach around urgency, empathy, and meeting customers where they are.

That’s also what made Overture feel like the right fit.

Scott was drawn to our belief that staffing should be less transactional and more meaningful — focused on quality, partnership, and helping clients make confident hiring decisions.

Outside of work, you’ll likely find him exploring Boston, trying a new restaurant, staying active, or catching a game with friends.

We’re glad to have Scott on board and excited to see the relationships he builds here.

Welcome to Overture, Scott!

Five openings live this week, weighted toward security and full stack development in the Boston market.

Two of them sit on the security side. A Senior Security Architect focused on AI and enterprise security, a permanent, hybrid role for someone who has built security architecture around emerging technology rather than just maintained it:
https://hubs.li/Q04sqZ6S0

And an Application Security Engineer in Burlington, contract to perm and fully on-site, for an engineer who wants a clear path to a permanent seat: https://hubs.li/Q04sr3YF0

On the development side, three hybrid contract roles in Boston:
Full Stack/Backend Developer: https://hubs.li/Q04sr1bD0

Full Stack Java Developer: https://hubs.li/Q04sr1Js0

Onsite Coordinator / Lead Full Stack Developer, which pairs hands-on development with team coordination: https://hubs.li/Q04sr5Dm0

If one of these fits, apply directly. If you know someone stronger for it, send them our way. Referrals are how most of our best placements start.

Building a model in a notebook is not the same as operating one reliably in production.

When hiring an AI/ML engineer, look beyond model accuracy and tool familiarity. Production-ready candidates should be able to explain how they have handled:
• Model deployment and rollback
• Data and feature drift
• CI/CD for ML artifacts
• Monitoring and observability
• Business-focused performance testing

The goal is not simply to find someone who understands AI. It is to identify someone who can move an AI initiative from experimentation to dependable business use.

As AI reshapes recruiting, we're seeing the same question emerge that defined Overture's founding in 2001:

Should technology replace the human element of hiring?

Twenty-five years later, the answer is still no.

AI can identify candidates faster. It can process data at scale. It can automate screening and matching. But it cannot:
- Understand the nuances of what makes someone successful in your specific environment
- Build trust between candidate and hiring manager before day one
- Navigate the judgment calls that turn a good hire into a great one
- Invest in the relationship when challenges arise

As organizations navigate AI-enabled recruiting, we're more convinced than ever that the firms and professionals who combine technology with human judgment, accountability, and genuine partnership will be the ones building the strongest teams.

That's what we've been building for 25 years. And that's where we're headed.

Community colleges enroll nearly half of all U.S. undergraduates. They serve the most diverse student populations in American higher education.

And they do it with IT teams of 6 to 12 people covering everything a university department of 60 handles.

The network administrator is also the security officer. The ERP administrator is also the data analyst. When one person leaves, the team doesn't lose one function — it loses several simultaneously.

Community college IT staffing doesn't work like staffing a research university. The budget cycles are tied to state appropriations. The enrollment patterns are more volatile. And there are workforce development technology environments — CDL simulation labs, healthcare simulation centers, manufacturing training floors — that no four-year IT team has ever managed.

Our latest post maps the four roles community colleges struggle most to fill and the staffing model that actually works for the two-year sector: a small permanent core, contract augmentation for projects, surge staffing during registration peaks, and bridge coverage when someone leaves.

No other sector faces this convergence simultaneously: universities are producing AI research, deploying AI in operations and student services, and being directly disrupted by AI in academic integrity, pedagogy, and workforce preparation.

For CIOs and IT leaders, that means a new generation of roles that didn't exist in most institutional org charts 18 months ago.

Our latest post maps five of them: the AI Ethics and Governance Officer (the hardest fill in higher ed IT right now), the Campus AI Strategist, the Student Data Privacy Engineer, the Research Computing Specialist for GPU and LLM infrastructure, and the Digital Accessibility Lead for AI-generated content.

The sourcing challenge is real: AI ethics and governance candidates aren't on LinkedIn applying to job postings. They're presenting at FAccT, writing for the AI Now Institute, and consulting for policy organizations. Standard recruiting doesn't reach them.

We're already building those pipelines. Here's what these roles look like and why they matter.
