Here's a number that should get your leadership team's attention: technical debt is now costing U.S. businesses an estimated $2.41 trillion a year.

For small and mid-sized businesses in financial services, healthcare, and life sciences, the risk isn't just wasted budget. Outdated systems create compliance gaps, slow down AI adoption, and quietly drain resources that should be going toward growth.

The good news is that fixing this doesn't require ripping out your entire infrastructure. It starts with putting a number on the problem and bringing it to leadership in terms they already act on: risk, cost, and competitive exposure.

We break down exactly how to do that in our latest blog post. Take a look πŸ‘‡

Is technical debt quietly draining your IT budget? Here's how to turn it into a business risk metric leadership will actually act on.

Reactive IT feels manageable, until it isn't.

For businesses in healthcare, financial services, and life sciences, an unplanned outage or a missed vulnerability isn't just an inconvenience. It can mean compliance exposure, patient data risk, or a failed audit.

Gartner's latest CIO survey found that only 48% of digital initiatives meet their intended business outcomes, largely because IT decisions get made without a strategic plan behind them.

That's where vCIO services come in. Instead of waiting for the next fire, a virtual CIO builds a roadmap tied to your actual business goals, a budget grounded in ROI, and a security review schedule that catches problems early, before they become incidents.

Curious what proactive IT planning looks like for a regulated business like yours? We break it down in our latest post. https://buff.ly/NHqCG5k

vCIO services replace reactive IT firefighting with a strategic roadmap, ROI-driven budgets, and proactive security for regulated SMBs.

Quick reality check for anyone running AI tools inside a regulated business: "we have an AI policy" isn't the safety net it used to be.

State attorneys general are increasingly using existing consumer protection and anti-discrimination laws to go after AI-related issues, and here's the part that surprises most leadership teams: you don't need proof of harm to get flagged. A missing risk assessment, an undocumented bias test, or no audit trail can be enough on its own.

With Colorado, California, Texas, New York, and Illinois all rolling out new AI obligations through 2026 and 2027, and no single federal law to simplify things, the safest move is treating AI governance like you already treat cybersecurity or financial controls: ongoing, documented, and ready for a regulator's questions at any time.

We broke down the full state-by-state timeline, the penalty ranges, and what to fix first. https://buff.ly/5oGYPE2

AI governance is now a legal requirement, not a policy statement. See what the EU AI Act and U.S. state laws demand from your organization in 2026.

Ransomware isn't the biggest cyber threat your business should be worried about anymore.

According to the World Economic Forum's 2026 Global Cybersecurity Outlook, cyber-enabled fraud has overtaken ransomware as the top concern for CEOs worldwide. The numbers back it up: 73% of business leaders say they or someone in their network was affected by fraud in the last year, and the global cost has climbed to roughly $1.1 trillion annually.

For financial services, healthcare, and life sciences organizations, this means fraud controls, like verified payment approvals and phishing awareness training, deserve the same attention as ransomware defenses.

We break down what this shift means for your business and what to prioritize now. Check out the full article on our blog. https://buff.ly/Yy87qU4

Would your team catch a fake CFO on a video call?

One engineering firm didn't, and it cost them $25.6 million. Every person on that call, including the CFO, was an AI-generated deepfake. The employee wasn't careless. He just didn't have a process built to catch something this convincing.

Here's the uncomfortable part: voice cloning fraud jumped from $360 million in losses in 2024 to $1.1 billion in 2025. And it only takes about 3 seconds of audio, a podcast clip, a webinar recording, an earnings call, to clone someone's voice convincingly.

The old safeguards (recognizing a voice, checking caller ID, having a second person confirm on the call) don't hold up, because the fraud happens inside the very call those safeguards rely on.

The good news: this is fixable. It just requires rethinking how approvals work: verifying requests through a separate channel, requiring two people to confirm independently, and using a code word that's never been sent digitally.

Big authentication shift coming for anyone using Microsoft 365 or Entra ID.

Microsoft is phasing out SMS and voice-based sign-in codes in favor of passkeys, the fingerprint, face-scan, or security-key logins you may already use on your phone or laptop.

Here's the timeline:
September 1, 2026: passkey enrollment begins automatically for SMS/voice users
February 1, 2027: SMS and voice authentication retires completely, for every organization

Why the change? Text and voice codes can be intercepted through SIM-swap scams and phone-based social engineering. Passkeys close that gap by using device credentials that simply can't be phished the same way.

For businesses in regulated industries especially, getting ahead of this now means no surprise login lockouts, no help desk fire drills, and a smoother path to meeting the security expectations regulators and insurers are already leaning toward.

Read the full breakdown, including a 3-step rollout plan, on our blog πŸ‘‰https://buff.ly/LWvkFVV

AI is moving faster than most governance frameworks can keep up, and the FDA just made that a compliance issue, not just a strategy question.

Between 2016 and 2023, the FDA's CDER division reviewed more than 500 drug and biologic submissions involving AI components. In January 2025, the FDA released two major draft guidance documents addressing exactly this: one covering AI in drug and biological products, and another covering AI-enabled medical devices across their full lifecycle.

The big shift? Traditional software validation assumes predictable, deterministic systems. AI doesn't work that way. It can drift or behave inconsistently over time, which means the old validation playbook doesn't fully apply anymore.

For biotech and life sciences teams, this means:
βœ… Assigning clear ownership over AI governance (not leaving it to chance)
βœ… Rethinking GxP validation with AI's unique risks in mind
βœ… Watching global alignment: the FDA and EMA published joint AI principles together in January 2026

We broke down what this means in practice, including a framework for building an approach that holds up under audit. Read the full piece here: https://buff.ly/DPZxSIm

You can't manage what you can't see, and that's the problem with a lot of enterprise AI right now.

Companies are great at tracking deployment numbers and costs. What's harder to track: employees quietly using unapproved AI tools, technical debt piling up from fast prototyping, or getting locked into a single vendor without realizing it until it's too late.

Our newest blog digs into the hidden risks CIOs need to watch for, and how to build a program that surfaces them before they turn into a real incident.

Hidden AI risks like shadow AI, technical debt, and vendor lock-in quietly erode enterprise value. See how CIOs can find and manage them first.

The biggest phishing threat today isn't a poorly written email. It's a perfectly written one.

AI has changed phishing.

Attackers now research their targets, mimic trusted colleagues, clone voices, and wait for the exact moment someone is busy, distracted, or under pressure.

A message from your CFO. A text from a vendor. A voicemail from a colleague.

It can all be generated, personalized, and delivered at scale.

The result? Employees who would have spotted traditional phishing attempts may fall for today's AI-powered attacks.

In our latest blog, we explore how AI phishing is evolving, why legacy defenses struggle to keep up, and what organizations should do to reduce risk.

Key topics include:
βœ… AI-generated spear phishing
βœ… Voice cloning and deepfake scams
βœ… Multi-channel attacks across email, SMS, and phone
βœ… Modern detection and response strategies
βœ… Building security awareness programs that actually work

Organizations that adapt their defenses now will be better positioned to manage one of the fastest-growing cybersecurity threats.

AI is evolving from answering questions to taking actions.

That means the risks are changing too.

If AI agents can access systems, move data, approve transactions, or trigger workflows, businesses need governance, oversight, and accountability built in from day one.

Our latest blog explains what Agentic AI Governance is, why it matters, and the practical steps organizations can take to reduce risk while moving forward with AI adoption.

Read the article and see what leaders should be focusing on right now.
