Our July dotDEV is live ⬇️

Highlights: an MCP Server (Beta) that lets Claude Desktop or Cursor build sites, migrate content, and run accessibility reports on dotCMS. Plus three new AI providers in dotAI (Azure OpenAI, Google Vertex AI, AWS Bedrock), and four new Universal Visual Editor capabilities built to get engineering out of the layout-ticket business.

"Intentional behavior." That's how one AI-powered coding platform described a vulnerability that exposed source code, credentials, and customer data across the apps built on it.

Our Director of Cyber Security, Mehdi Karimi, Ph.D., has a different read: trust without governance, not speed, is the most dangerous default in AI today.
His argument: as AI moves from assistant to infrastructure, writing code, connecting to APIs, touching production systems, governing it like a simple productivity tool isn't enough anymore. Shadow AI isn't a productivity problem. It's a governance problem, and IBM's 2025 breach research backs this up: incidents involving unmanaged AI tools carry a steep added cost.

"Governance should be built into the systems that create, manage and deliver content, not layered on after new tools have already been connected."
Read the full breakdown, including what this means for digital experience and content teams specifically.

According to a June 2025 Gartner press release, by 2028, 33% of enterprise software applications will include agentic AI, up from less than 1% in 2024. A separate Gartner forecast from August 2025 projects that task-specific AI agents will be in 40% of enterprise apps as early as 2026.

The organizations best positioned for this shift are not the ones with the most AI-enabled functions. They are the ones who build their content infrastructure for use by agents.

As a visual, headless CMS built for compliance-led enterprises, dotCMS AI philosophy is designed with a two-layer architecture where the same governed content, workflows, and APIs that power your editors are exactly what autonomous agents call.

73% of enterprise AI deployments fail to hit projected ROI. 42% of companies abandoned at least one AI initiative in 2025. The average sunk cost per project that gets dropped is $4.2 million.

The dominant explanation is bad data. But when you look closer, the problem is almost always upstream of the data pipeline. It is content that was never structured for AI. Content that cannot be tagged, governed, or served at the speed modern experiences require.

The model is not the bottleneck. The content infrastructure is. And most enterprises will not figure that out until they have already spent the budget.

Speed is not the only point of AI.

That's Freddy Montes, dotCMS VP of Product, after months of experimenting with AI, personally and across dotCMS. The ability to move fast is real. But mistaking that for the goal is what he calls "the illusion of speed."

The harder question: how are you actually changing the way you work with AI?

AI may not care about your compliance requirements, which is why your CMS should.

In Episode 14 of 'Real Talk, Real Trust with dotCMS', Freddy Montes (VP Product, dotCMS) breaks down why governance is not optional when you're building AI content workflows for healthcare, finance, or government, and how dotCMS already has the guardrails built in through workflows and audit trails.

When was the last time a customer experienced your brand exactly the way you intended it?

Customers experience your brand as one thing. When the pieces don't connect, they feel it, even when they can't say why.

Integrated brand experience is not only about brand guidelines but also about the infrastructure that makes consistency enforceable: approval workflows, governed content, and a platform that does the policing so your team doesn't have to.

We wrote the guide that covers everything about brand experiences: https://www.dotcms.com/blog/guide-to-integrated-brand-experiences
