Marketplaces are hard, but you’re all awesome. 🚀🥬

You’ve all shown up for this one. So I’m done procrastinating my fall update and call for action. REAP Food Group Cadre Bandit Tacos & Coffee Longtable B**r Cafe and Flynn Creek Farm are just the beautiful tip of the iceberg for our early believers, and things are picking up so thanks for that belief.

Over the last week amazing new businesses have joined the network like begonia. Wonka’s Harvest JACKNIFE Cox Hill Farm Brix C***r and more.

We are working on exciting stuff with Grandad's Farm Stop and launching an interview and farm tour special that we did out at Beauvine Enterprises .

BUT, we have far to go. The sleepless nights and long days will continue until we have the Madison farm to table scene humming like clockwork, and then we will continue to expand into the other 10 states where we’ve now planted seeds.

Local food is the future, and the platform finally exists that makes it logistically possible.

Cheers to all of you. Your story is the one we will continue shouting from the rooftop!

Starstruck this morning…

The Des Moines road trip out to Iowa Startup Week is off to a great start with an amazing on farm interview with Beauvine Enterprises and then a surprise visit with Tony Hook's Cheese .

I have been eating and appreciating Hook’s cheese for a long time, and it’s so cool to drop-in and hear the story from Tony himself.

Here we go again. 🌱

Maize is a semifinalist for Best of the Midwest at Iowa Startup Week. 🚀

We’re excited, but always amused to call ourselves a startup when farmers, restaurants, and eaters have been telling this story for hundreds of years. Sure, we have started-up a scalable platform and marketplace, but, there was a time when seed raise, just meant turning some soil, dropping a seed, and watering it. I guess on some level, we’re doing that?

We are building a way to bring local farms back to the table, using technology to make texting your carrot person a scalable thing. It used to be the norm. A pasture raised egg, used to just be an egg. You knew who grew your food, and you could just ask them for more of it. Somewhere along the way, that got replaced with expensive layered supply chains nobody can see into. We’re putting the relationship back at the center, and excited to build more of our own relationships next week.

Grateful to the Iowa Startup Week team for the invite, and we’ll see you in Des Moines.

Relationships are a local farm’s real superpower. Well, and growing incredible food. But the demand farms need next season starts with the connections being built right now.

Maize is like a super suit or cape that helps farmers harness that superpower. We help farmers build relationships now, so when spring comes, orders flow like clockwork.

People are more than one thing and every journey is multi-faceted, but we all need community.

I spend some days with farmers, some days with chefs, and some days gathering with other founders building cool things. They all inspire me in different ways.

No surprise either that some of the best conversations at Founder Day were over lunch eating good food together.

We have big things planned in collaboration with the earth this year. ☺️

Those plans start in the soil, and that healthy soil grows real food, and that real food feeds people and communities.

Today is a reminder that taking care of the ground beneath us is one of the simplest and most important things we can do. So do it, and support the people who do it.

Staying connected to where your food comes from is a big part of Earth Day.🌎

Glad we found you Little Lion Cafe

Stumbled into a new Maize spot, Little Lion Cafe and it felt like we found something special, even though the regulars clearly already knew. The kind of spot where you slow down without thinking about it, everyone knows everyone, and breakfast just shows up exactly how it should, real and authentic. 🥑🍳
