Meet Eddie Clement!
Eddie is a Sr. Mission Coordinator at FlyGuys and will be celebrating three years with the team this December.

Before joining FlyGuys, Eddie worked as a Facilities Manager for a food delivery company. These days, one of his favorite parts of the job is getting to know the pilots he works with across the country.

We asked what he enjoys most about working at FlyGuys: "The people I've gotten to know along the way. Working with pilots across the country has given me the opportunity to build relationships with people I otherwise never would have met."

It's those connections that make our nationwide network feel a little smaller.

A big congratulations to Steve Richard, our Director of Service Quality, on earning his FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot License!

For someone working closely with our operations team and nationwide pilot network, understanding what happens in the field is a big part of Steve's job. Earning his Part 107 gives him an even stronger perspective on the regulations, planning, and safety considerations our pilots navigate every day.

"Earning my FAA Commercial Drone License isn’t just a personal milestone. It’s a direct level-up for what we do every day in the Operations Department at FlyGuys."

That firsthand knowledge helps strengthen the connection between our customers, pilots, and operations team, making it easier to plan missions and deliver quality data.

What makes reality capture worth the investment? It's not the data itself. It's what people can do with it.

Today at R-CON 2026 in Boise, our Solutions Architect, Julia Guerra, joined the panel "From Skeptic to Advocate: Building the Business Case for Reality Capture."

The conversation focused on a challenge we see often: making reality data useful and accessible to more people across an organization.

Julia shared a few important takeaways:
- Customers aren't asking for a point cloud. They're looking for solutions to real problems with their assets.
- Buy-in doesn't happen overnight. Starting with a small, well-defined project and getting it right can build the confidence needed to scale.
- Getting the scope right matters. Capturing more data than a customer needs doesn't necessarily create more value.
- Making reality data accessible and useful to more people across an organization helps demonstrate its long-term value.

The goal is to make reality data something teams can actually use, not just another deliverable sitting in a folder.

Ask a Pilot Expert: How do you know which equipment belongs to which carrier on a crowded cell tower?

With five to six years of telecom experience and tower captures across the country, FlyGuys pilots Paul and Tara Carrin have learned that knowing how to fly is only part of the job.

“When I first get to a region, I have to track it from the equipment all the way up to the antennas,” Paul explained.
Some carriers have equipment that’s easier to recognize, but when multiple carriers use similar hardware, identifying the right equipment can become a process of elimination. Over time, experience makes those differences easier to spot, and equipment cheat sheets can help newer pilots learn what to look for.

Their advice for pilots getting into telecom? Lean on experienced pilots and don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Knowing how to fly a drone is one thing. Knowing what you’re looking at on the tower comes with experience.

For tower owners and operators, every climb adds another layer of risk to an inspection.

Drone-based data collection gives telecom teams a way to capture detailed imagery and reality data across antennas, mounts, cabling, and other tower components while reducing the need to put personnel at height just to document conditions.

That means teams can get a clearer picture of what’s happening on the structure before deciding whether a climb or additional field work is actually necessary.

The value goes beyond safety, too. Consistent visual data can help teams document asset conditions, identify areas that need closer attention, and give engineers, maintenance teams, and other stakeholders better information to work from.

Drones don’t replace the expertise of tower professionals. They give those professionals another way to collect the information they need while limiting unnecessary exposure to risk.

Our friends at FlyRoute spend Friday nights capturing aerial game film that gives teams a different look at what’s happening on the field. We spend plenty of time behind a drone ourselves, so we can appreciate a good view when we see one.

She loves that the industry is constantly evolving and that she gets to keep learning from people who are deeply immersed in it.
“I never thought I’d work in tech at a startup in an industry writing a new story every day. I get to help tell that story, and it's a pretty cool story.”

Can drones inspect cell towers? Yes. But it takes a lot more than flying a few circles around one.

We sat down with FlyGuys in-house pilot Randy Fields to find out what actually happens during a cell tower drone inspection, from navigating interference and identifying the right equipment to making sure the data is usable before leaving the site.
