The Borough of Kutztown is focused on delivering clean drinking water and protecting the health of every household in our community, and we are working hard to make necessary improvements to our water system.

Starting this month, our goal is to identify the material of every service line (pipes), delivering water to the structure(s) on a property from the water main. This is required by the Environmental Protection Agency and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to comply with the Lead & Copper Rule Improvements Service Line Inventory Requirements.

Because of this requirement, the Water Department will need to visit a few hundred properties in town to vacuum excavate a four-inch hole near the curb line of the property, at the water shut off valve, to visually inspect the service line to identify the material used.

If your property is selected, you may see a white Borough Water Department truck, with a yellow vacuum trailer attached, and the water crew working at the edge of your property line at the curb. We will refill the hole and replace the sod removed to restore the property.

This process may continue through November 2027. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during our quest to comply with this requirement.

Kutztown Police Department Snow Removal Update:

You may have noticed Borough crews working hard over the past week to improve travel conditions throughout Kutztown. That work will continue Monday and Tuesday of next week as crews focus on clearing remaining snow along curb lines, intersections, and travel lanes.

To help them do this safely and efficiently, certain areas will be posted as No Parking during scheduled snow removal times. We ask residents and visitors to please be mindful of the posted signs and plan accordingly.

We appreciate your help in finding alternative parking where needed. Free parking will be available in all municipal parking lots on Monday and Tuesday to make this a little easier.

Monday, 2/2:
– Noble Street, 0 to 200 block
– S. Whiteoak Street from W. Main Street to Normal Avenue

Tuesday, 2/3:
– W. Walnut Street
– Greenwich Street from Saucony Alley to Fairview Street

These temporary parking restrictions allow crews to do a more complete job, which helps improve visibility, reduces icy spots along the curb, and makes travel safer for everyone, including pedestrians and emergency responders.

We know this can be an inconvenience, and we appreciate the community’s cooperation and patience as crews continue this important work. Thank you for helping keep Kutztown moving safely.

01/29/2026

Snow removal will continue tomorrow, January 30, on E. Walnut Street, between Maple and Laurel Streets. Additional areas and intersections will be cleared as time allows.
