Antivirus ≠ complete protection.

Free antivirus software may detect a threat, display a warning, and stop there. It doesn’t call anyone for you, so if nobody sees or responds to that alert, the problem may continue.

This one is going around Orange County right now.

An email arrives that looks like it came from a company you already pay. The amount looks about right. The only thing different is the bank account they want the money sent to. No bad spelling, nothing rushed, which is why it works.

If one turns up, stop the payment, ring the supplier on a number you already had, and do not reply to the email to check.

Your phone buzzes asking you to approve a sign-in, except you were not signing in to anything. Most people assume it is a glitch and swipe it away.

It is not a glitch. That message only appears when somebody has already typed your password correctly. The only thing keeping them out now is that second step on your phone, and the only person who can let them through is you.

Tap deny, change that password on a different device, and tell whoever looks after your IT or give us a call.
