On October 8, Terry Cutler and Gene Moody will look at the gap between a vulnerability being disclosed and actually getting patched, and how it can turn into a breach.

Terry will show how an attacker sizes up an exposed system and what they can do while the patch is still waiting. Gene will cover the defender's side: where remediation gets stuck and what IT teams can realistically do about it.

Cowboy hats, bourbon, Texas BBQ… we may have found a pretty good formula for an Action1 event 🤠

We had the best time in Dallas at Boots, Bourbon & Patching That Works.

Custom hats, bourbon tasting with Lockwood Distilling Co., plenty of BBQ, and some really good conversations. Turns out patching and bourbon can share a room after all. 😄

What happens if your team can’t patch high-risk and critical security updates within the 14-day Cyber Essentials window?

As of April 2026, two security update questions can now automatically fail your Cyber Essentials assessment, which means missing the requirement can put your certification at risk.
