Plot twist: my senior superlative was right!

When I graduated from DAAP, I got the senior superlative “Most Likely to Become a DAAP Professor.” At the time, I thought it was funny. Four years later, I guess my classmates were onto something!

I’m excited to share that I’ll be returning to the University of Cincinnati DAAP program next week as an Adjunct Professor, teaching Design Drawing to first-year Communication Design students.

I’ll be teaching students how to take something from the physical, 3D world and translate it into 2D through perspective, line, light and shadow, graphic reduction, and lots of drawing.

Getting to come back to the place where I learned to be a designer and help guide the next group of designers feels pretty surreal. I’m really excited for this new experience! 😄

For the second Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Young People’s Concert brand this coming season, I got to take things Out of This World!🚀

The final concept, Cosmic Orchestra, brings together two things that might seem worlds apart at first: space and music. A giant central planet anchors the composition while its orbital rings transform into a five-line musical staff, with notes traveling through space in its orbit.

I wanted the illustration to feel immediately cosmic while still connecting back to the CSO’s visual language.

A third year of creating show brands for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s Young People’s Concerts! 🎶

I’m so grateful to continue collaborating with such a wonderful organization and getting to create illustrations that help introduce young audiences to the world of orchestral music.

First up: Too Big for Words, a concert all about the many emotions music can express.

For the final direction, I created a six-panel cast of musical note characters, each with their own expression and personality. The goal was to capture that big, messy, colorful spectrum of feelings that music can bring out in us, from joy to sadness and everything in between.

Thank you to the CSO for trusting me with another year of bringing these programs to life. I’m already looking forward to what’s next!

A little closer look at Below the Tide 🌊

For this mural I got to turn a blank lanai wall into an underwater world filled with layered blues, drifting plants, and a few colorful friends along the way. 🐢🪼

I love how the finished piece feels calm and coastal from across the space, but the closer you get, the more fun little details you start to notice!

A little peek at the organized chaos that is my freelance desk 🖥️🌱✨

This is what my workspace actually looked like in the middle of working on a project recently. After pausing and looking I realized it was a collection of things I like, things I need, and little reminders of the people & places that have helped me get here.

A few of these desk essentials + good luck charms include:

🧡 A sticker from one of my favorite clothing brands, Nooworks

📖 My well loved and annotated copy of Freelance, and Business, and Stuff by Amy Hood & Jennifer Hood of Hoodzpah(a book that has been a genuinely helpful resource as I’ve built my studio)

🌿Fifth Third Bank water bottle and the little potted plant gifted to me by my Fifth Third team on my last day (Thank you again!)

👁️ A Blink sticker from my time being an artist for the event in 2024

✊ Feminist reminder artwork from Twentysome Design

💻 And, of course, the iPad, MacBook + Bose headphones doing the heavy lifting

It’s messy sometimes. It’s colorful. It’s full of things that inspire me. And most importantly, there’s a whole lot of work happening here.
