One of the most misunderstood cable problems is how to connect multiple amplifiers or subwoofers to a single output (be it one subwoofer output, or one right channel and one left channel) on a preamplifier. The most common tactic is to put a Y-connector or cable on the output jack and then run separate cables from there to the inputs of the target products. This is wrong as it may place an unusual impedance on the preamplifier and may subject both receiving products to signal reflections from one to the other.

The proper way to use a Y-connector or cable is to start from the preamp with the first single cable, place the Y connector into the receiving product, connect the first single cable into the female socket of the Y and then attach the 2nd single cable to the other female socket of the Y and continue onto the next product. That's the way it is done.
