Despite efforts to silence this population, members of the LGBTQ+ community are not retreating from civic engagement. History points to the fact that this community has long been deeply engaged in civic and political participation, and research solidifies that this pattern is continuing rather than fading.

The legal avenues that voting rights advocates have relied on for decades are narrowing.

What remains is the work on the ground: registration, turnout, civic education, and the sustained community engagement keeping people connected to the process even when the process keeps failing them.

The primary goal of systematic voter suppression is to ensure that communities that threaten Republican power subscribe to the mentality that voting doesn’t matter for them. That's why embracing community events and showing that community involvement does make a difference serves to strengthen a voter base and progressive campaign.

Last week, Civitech celebrated community involvement with TX Chair Scudder's "Welcome to Texas, Y'all" Reception in Austin. Thank you to all who joined us at Antone's Nightclub for the event!
