Every founder I've talked to who blew their app budget had the same problem. They didn't know the cheapest quote was the most expensive project. Get five quotes for the same app and you'll see numbers from $15,000 to $250,000. Those five teams are not looking at the same project. They're looking at five different versions of it.

The cheap ones are usually leaving things out. Scope that was assumed, not written down. QA that wasn't budgeted. A backend that handles 10 users fine but falls apart at 1,000.

We've been through enough of these post-mortems to see the pattern clearly. The app that was going to cost $40k turns into $120k. Not because the vendor is dishonest, although sometimes they are. Mostly because the spec was vague and both sides filled in the gaps differently.

A few things that actually help before you sign anything:
Ask to see apps they've shipped to the store. Not renders. Not Figma files. Real apps with real reviews, downloaded by real users. Ask what went wrong on their last project and how they handled it. The answer to that one tells you more than any case study deck.

Get the scope in writing, at the feature level. Not "admin dashboard." Write out exactly what the admin can do, what they can't, and what happens when they try.
Across 540+ projects, the engagements that go sideways almost always start with a vague spec and a low bid. The ones that go well almost always start with someone slowing down in week one to define what "done" means.

If you're at the stage of comparing quotes and something feels off, happy to take a look. No pitch, just a straight read.

Comment if you're in that comparison stage and want a second opinion. Or find us at appcrops.com.

Flutter vs React Native is one of those debates where everyone has a hot take and very few people have the data.

We do. We've shipped apps in both.

For fintech and logistics products where the UI has to feel fast and the rendering has to be smooth, we default to Flutter. For teams where the existing engineers know JavaScript and the product doesn't have any unusually demanding UI requirements, React Native handles it fine and keeps costs down.

Neither answer is right for every situation. But "it depends" is only helpful if you know what it depends on. Here's the version that's actually useful:

If your app is doing real-time data, complex animations, or anything that needs to feel like a native system experience (camera, Bluetooth, AR), the framework is going to fight you eventually. Native is the right call.

If your app is a B2B tool, a marketplace, a content platform, or a social product, cross-platform is probably fine. React Native and Flutter have both shipped things at scale that would surprise the people who wrote them off in 2019.

The variable that usually gets ignored: your team. A decision made in isolation from whoever is building the app is a decision you'll revisit around month four.

We published a full breakdown of this. Link: https://appcrops.com/blogs/flutter-vs-react-native

A startup founder came to us last year with a quote from another agency.
The quote was for $38,000. Sounded reasonable. He almost signed. We went through the specs together and found that the backend was basically placeholder, QA wasn't in the budget, and the third-party payment integration he needed was listed as "to be determined."

We built the same app for $87,000 with everything actually included. He was frustrated at first. Three months after launch, he told us the $87k project felt like the deal.

The cheapest quote usually isn't the cheapest project. That gap shows up later. If you're comparing proposals and something looks too clean or too cheap, it might be worth a second look before you sign. We're happy to review a quote for free and tell you what we see. No agenda. Just a straight read.
