AI can find you an asking price in seconds. But an asking price isn’t a value. 🤖💭

That gap is exactly why WorthPoint exists. Someone lists Pyrex for $500 — doesn’t mean it’s worth $500. AI and Google pull listings and hopeful prices; WorthPoint is built on more than 1 BILLION real sale prices, sent daily from auction houses and marketplaces. 📊

William Seippel, CEO WorthPoint Corporation started it after watching his own mom get taken advantage of by dealers while downsizing. The mission: help people know what they actually own — and deal fairly.

When real money’s on the line, you want the sold price, not the wish price. See what yours is worth. 👇

A “ruby” in the Russian crown jewels turned out to be something else entirely. 💎 Meet tourmaline — October’s other birthstone.

Opal gets the October spotlight, but tourmaline is winning over modern birthday shoppers: it comes in nearly every color (from vivid “Paraiba” blue to watermelon pink-and-green), and it’s far more durable than opal. It’s fooled experts for centuries — “Caesar’s Ruby” in the Russian crown jewels is actually a red tourmaline. 👑

Value runs the full range: under $100 for small sterling pieces, into the thousands for fine rubellite and Paraiba stones. As always, with the good ones, know what you’ve got.

WorthPoint’s Chic for Life with Pamela Siegel breaks it down — backed by 1 billion+ real sale prices. 👇

A monster model kit that cost 98 cents in 1962 just sold for $18,750. 🧟‍♂️📈 Perfect timing for spooky season.

Aurora’s “big three” monster models — Frankenstein, Dracula, and the Wolf Man — were a mid-century craze, and today they’re serious collectibles. A sealed Frankenstein hit $18,750, a Frightening Lightning Dracula brought $19,080, and the holy-grail Godzilla go-cart kit sold for $36,344. 👹

Condition and the original “long box” art drive everything. These dollar-store toys became genuine tangible assets — if you know what’s sealed in that attic box.

Pay $18, get a mystery pin. 🎰 A complete set of them just resold for $749.99.

Disneyland just rolled out seven gachapon-style vending machines dispensing “mystery” Disney pins — you don’t know which one you’re getting until the capsule pops out. Classic blind-box thrill. And the secondary market’s already moving: that first full set hit $750, while a 2025 anniversary pin set sold for $1,500. 🏰

It’s the collectibility formula Disney has perfected — and proof these little pins can be real tangible assets, if you know which ones to chase.

🏺 There’s a vase in your grandmother’s cabinet that the Gilded Age rich once ranked right up there with Tiffany. Meet Rookwood Pottery — founded in 1880 by Maria Longworth Nichols, one of the first American companies of its size led by a woman, back when that was almost unheard of.

This week’s WorthPoint Dictionary covers Rookwood Pottery — from glossy 1880s Standard Ware to the dreamy Vellum glaze, plus architectural pieces that still line hotels, museums, and even old subway stations.

Pro tip: Rookwood pieces are beautifully marked — the famous flame logo added one flame per year starting in 1886, then switched to Roman numerals after 14 flames in 1901. Flip it over and you can date it almost to the year. (Heads up: high-quality counterfeits appeared in the 1990s, so marks matter.) 👀

Jim Bakker, the televangelist behind the PTL empire and the Heritage USA theme park, has died at 86.

His story is one of the most dramatic rise-and-fall sagas of the 1980s: he and Tammy Faye built a Christian broadcasting empire that drew millions, before a fraud conviction and scandal brought it all down. Love it or loathe it, PTL and Heritage USA left a real mark on American pop culture. 📺

For collectors of that era, the memorabilia — vintage LPs, park brochures, Heritage USA souvenirs — tells the story of a uniquely “Big ’80s” chapter of history.

WorthPoint’s Brenda Kelley Kim looks back at the full, complicated legacy. 👇
