Moving offices this year? Here is the short version of the network checklist we walk customers through.

Internet circuit ordered, with an install date confirmed in writing.
A backup path if you cannot afford downtime, even a wireless failover.
Network closet ready: power, cooling, a rack, and the patch panel terminated and labeled.
Cabling pulled, tested, and labeled to every desk.
Switches, firewall, and access points configured and ready to drop in.
Phone numbers ported, confirmed ahead of time.
A real cutover plan: what turns on when, and who to call if something is down.

The full walkthrough is free to read. Link in the first comment.

One office-move detail that trips people up: phone numbers.

Porting a number from one carrier or system to another is not instant. It has a lead time of its own, and if you leave it to move week, you can land in the new space with no phones.

Confirm your numbers and start the port well ahead of the move. Same idea as the internet circuit: the timing is the hard part, not the work.

Get it on the list early and moving day stays boring, which is exactly what you want moving day to be.

Quick money-saver for anyone moving offices: get the cabling done while the space is still empty.

Pulling cable into an empty room is fast and cheap. Pulling it around installed furniture and working people is slow, expensive, and disruptive.

The week before the furniture arrives is the cheapest week you will ever have to wire the place.

If a move is coming, get the cabling on the calendar ahead of the movers. Email [email protected] if you want a hand scoping it.

If you are moving offices, order the internet the day you sign the lease.

New service from a carrier can take 30 to 90 days to install, fiber especially, and the clock does not start until you order.

Everything else on a move can be fast. The circuit cannot. It is the one item where ordering late cannot be fixed with money or effort.

Sign the lease, order the internet the same day. Future you will be glad you did. Free checklist in the first comment.

Office moves go sideways in predictable ways, and the network is almost always one of them.

Everybody focuses on the furniture and the movers. Then day one arrives, nobody can get online, the phones do not ring, and the whole team is sitting in a new space they cannot actually work in.

The fix is to treat the network as its own project with its own timeline, not something you handle the weekend you move in.

We wrote down the checklist we walk customers through. Free checklist in the first comment.

Atlanta is about to have the world's eyes on it for the 2026 World Cup, and South Downtown was built back to be ready for it.

Phase One was timed to open ahead of the matches. We were in those buildings for months getting the wiring, network, cameras, and internet in so these spaces could open on their dates.

When you are down there this summer, the district you are walking through was a set of empty century-old buildings not long ago. Good to see it full again.

Quick one. When people think storm prep, they think generators. Here is what actually saves a business a bad Monday.

A security camera you can pull up on your phone after a storm, so you are not driving downtown at midnight to see if the lights are on.

A moisture sensor sitting where a leak would start, so a Saturday-night drip does not turn into a Monday-morning flooring bill.

A phone bill we actually read, so the dead lines get killed and the company cells live on one plan we manage.

Same crew handles the wiring, phones, cameras, alarm, and internet. One call, not twenty.

We’re in Dallas this week with Telarus digging into what is actually moving from “interesting technology” into real-world business deployments.

Three themes keep coming up:

• AI is moving into production, but companies are quickly discovering that their data, networks, and existing systems have to be ready first.

• Cameras are becoming business systems, not just security systems. Computer vision and AI are creating use cases around operations, safety, occupancy, customer behavior, and process improvement.

• 5G and IoT are getting much more practical, particularly for multi-location businesses that need resilient connectivity, remote monitoring, and better visibility across locations.

That’s the part we’re especially interested in at Justin Hall Consulting: taking technologies that sound impressive in a conference room and figuring out where they actually create measurable value in the field.

This afternoon we’re diving deeper into IoT and 5G and meeting with vendors building these solutions.
