d&b audiotechnik is a German loudspeaker and amplifier manufacturer, founded in 1981, located in Backnang, north of Stuttgart.

Although d&b is an international company with subsidiaries in Europe, America and Asia their products are engineered and produced only in Germany. d&b loudspeakers are used in rental and installation markets for events, multimedia, musicals, concert halls, theatres, opera houses, broadcast and everything from the small conference rooms to the large scale stadiums. Hong Kong Jockey Club Amphitheatre completes sound system upgrade with Hong Kong’s first custom d&b CCL solution

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Amphitheatre has successfully completed a full sound system upgrade, becoming the first venue in Hong Kong to deploy a custom d&b CCL line array solution. The entire venue is now equipped with a professional d&b audio system, delivering a refined, high-standard listening experience.

At the core of the upgrade is a newly installed CCL main PA system, supported by three CCL-SUB arrays in a left–centre–right (LCR) configuration. The system was purpose-designed for the auditorium’s U-shaped, 600-seat layout, utilising the 120° horizontal dispersion variant to precisely address coverage challenges typical of this architectural form.

“Since the new system was installed, the most noticeable improvements are twofold. First, the sound is far more tightly focused on the audience area, with significantly reduced spill into other zones, ensuring a much more consistent tonal balance for every listener. Second, the stage will be quieter than before, creating a more comfortable experience for performers. Microphone pickup on stage is more efficient, and the risk of feedback has been greatly reduced.” says Lee Hoi-fai, Technical Manager (Sound)Venue Technical Office (HKAPA)

This upgrade establishes a new sound platform for The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, supporting high-quality performing arts and improving the listening experience for audiences across Hong Kong.

Matilda The Musical Makes History as the First CCL Rental Musical in Asia.

Matilda The Musical has arrived in Shanghai, featuring the renowned d&b CCL sound system. Produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company, this acclaimed musical has gained 101 major theatre awards since its West End premiere in 2011.

For its performances in China, the audio team implemented the same system configuration. At the heart of the setup is the d&b CCL, complemented by E6 and E8 loudspeakers for precise fill coverage. In addition, the B22 and V-SUB systems enhance low frequencies, ensuring a full-range and balanced sound experience throughout the theatre.

Audio system designer Jay Jones emphasizes, “We must ensure that we can hear the story of Matilda. We want the orchestra to sound wide and lush while keeping the focus on the narrative. That’s exactly what we achieved with CCL.”
