Every structural engineer knows the hidden cost of BIM workflows: broken geometries after model transfer, manually rebuilt analytical models, and time-consuming corrections that slow down the entire design process.

But should engineers really spend their time repairing models instead of designing structures?

In this technical webinar, we will present the latest developments in the interoperability between Revit and FEM-Design, focusing on smarter, more stable and more reliable BIM-based structural workflows.

The presentation will demonstrate:

✔ IFC- and API-based data exchange workflows
✔ Physical vs analytical model workflows
✔ Automatic physical-to-analytical model conversion
✔ Reliable transfer of geometrical and structural data
✔ Practical engineering workflows through real technical examples

The Eurocode generation 2 changes introduce meaningful shifts in how we model structural behaviour. Many of the changes look small on paper, yet have a real impact in practice. Here are 4 areas to keep on your radar.

- Deflections
- Snow Loads
- Section Classification
- Minimum Reinforcement

“We are working hard to implement the second-generation Eurocodes in both Simplex and FEM-Design, and we are getting very close to completing the standard implementation. The next big question is what the national annexes will bring,” says Isak Bjorhag, Head of 2D R&D at StruSoft.

Recently, our colleague Ciprian Tibea delivered a lecture to master’s students at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, focusing on the design of prestressed precast concrete beams.

The session went beyond theory. It covered calculations, assumptions, real-world errors, and optimisations, just like in actual projects. A key part was demonstrating how our PRE-Stress software is used for both design and verification.

For many students, it was an opportunity to see a digital tool validated over decades of use, supporting and accelerating decision-making without replacing engineering expertise.

These discussions naturally led to important questions:

- What do you do when the software says “ok,” but your engineering judgment disagrees?

- Where do we draw the line between automation and responsibility?

Sessions like this are not only about teaching; they are about shaping the next generation of engineers, ensuring they create structures that are not just visually impressive but also safe and reliable.

Complex load conditions. Tight architectural constraints. Zero compromise on safety. Learn how engineers from UPB relied on FEM‑Design to achieve accurate structural behaviour for a 9‑storey office building in Oslo (Frederik Selmers vei 2).

To secure the performance of prefabricated concrete elements under complex load conditions, the engineering team produced a detailed global stability model that enabled precise evaluation of shear transfer in floor diaphragms, tension anchors, and wall-to-wall interaction, while accommodating architectural constraints, factory limitations, facade requirements, and consultant-requested revisions.

- Project overview
- Prefabricated concrete structures modelling in FEM-Design
- Engineering challenges & how they solved them
- Why the engineering team used FEM-Design
- FEM-Design’s impact on the workflow
