EARTHQUAKE ALERT: A Magnitude 5.8 tectonic earthquake struck near Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro at approximately 10:38 AM (PST) today, August 7, 2026, according to DOST-PHIVOLCS. The earthquake originated at a shallow depth of around 10 km, resulting in shaking that was felt across parts of Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Central Luzon, and nearby provinces. Initial assessments indicate no tsunami threat to the Philippines; however, aftershocks are expected and residents are advised to remain vigilant.

Authorities are conducting damage assessments while local DRRM offices continue to monitor the situation. If you are in an affected area, inspect your surroundings for hazards, avoid entering damaged structures until declared safe, and rely only on official advisories from DOST-PHIVOLCS and your local government for updates.

According to PAGASA, the western sections of Luzon will experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms, while Metro Manila, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated to scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. Moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall may trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in vulnerable areas.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant, monitor the latest weather advisories, and take the necessary precautions, especially when traveling or engaging in outdoor activities.
