What does the future of work look like for Cebu’s tech community?

Last August 14, our team had the opportunity to attend the CIB.O Transformation Summit 2026, where leaders, innovators, and organizations came together to talk about the future of the IT-BPM industry.

It was a meaningful space to learn, listen, and reflect, especially on how AI is changing the way teams work, businesses grow, and people build future-ready skills.

For us, it was also a reminder of the kind of work we want to keep doing: building teams that are technically capable, curious, adaptable, and ready to take on transformation with purpose.

At SGDC, opportunities like this help us stay connected to the wider Cebu tech community while continuing to grow as engineers, leaders, and builders of meaningful products.

The event also recognized companies and teams contributing to the local industry. We’re grateful to have been among those considered for the AI & Workforce Transformation Excellence Award this year.

We may not have brought home the award this time, but being part of the conversation is already something we value.

Maybe next time! For now, we keep learning, building, and showing up for the future of Cebu tech.

The forecast was uncertain, but our purpose was clear. 🌱

Last Saturday, SGDC volunteers joined hands with the Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CCENRO) for a tree growing activity in Sitio Baksan, Brgy. Sapangdaku, Cebu City — one of the mountain communities continuing to recover from the effects of past typhoons and landslides.

Before planting, our volunteers learned about the area’s story, the importance of reforestation, and how to plant seedlings with care so they can grow and survive for the long term.

Then, with muddy shoes, mountain air, and a shared mission, the team got to work.

By the end of the morning, nearly 100 native tree seedlings had found new roots. Each one represents a small but meaningful step toward restoring the forest, protecting the community, and growing a greener future together.

This activity marks the first chapter of SGDC’s CSR initiatives this year. Through our CSR group, we hope to create more opportunities for our people to connect with communities, respond to meaningful causes, and make a positive impact together.

A heartfelt thank you to CCENRO, the local community, and every SGDC volunteer who spent their weekend with purpose.

This is only the beginning. More stories, more connections, and more impact to come. ✨

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗗𝗲𝘃 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗝𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗻
𝘣𝘺 𝘙𝘑 𝘌𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘣𝘢𝘯

When I found out I was flying to Japan with my two Contract One teammates from Cebu for our dev camp (gasshuku) and the company-wide meeting, I was a little nervous but mostly grateful.

The dev camp was held in Yugawara, at a quiet ryokan with an onsen, serene and surrounded by nature. That kind of stillness made it easy to focus.

For two days, the Contract One Engineering team was heads down. We ran hands-on workshops to improve our development and testing process, and worked on shipping the features we had set out to deliver.

For some of us, the onsen was a first, so it took some getting used to. But once you are in, no one really pays attention, so you just keep calm, settle in, and relax.

After the camp, we headed to the office to attend the company-wide meeting. We finally met the product managers, designers, and engineers we work with across teams, and we got to greet and thank them for their hard work.

Getting the chance to join this trip made me realize that the work we do in Cebu matters, something I do not take for granted. My biggest takeaway was the rapport we started building with the team. Every encounter, online or in person, adds to that, and it will only matter more as we keep working together.

I came home with two things: the focus I found in Yugawara, and a team that feels a lot closer than it did before.

What really happens inside a Pulse Circle?

Once a month, a small group gathers — managers showing up as mentors, engineers as mentees — to trade real questions instead of status updates. The conversations go beyond code: honest reflections on where we stumbled, what we learned, and who we're becoming. It's the kind of talk that rarely fits into a sprint, but quietly shapes how we lead.

Over six months, our Circles explored themes like innovation, negotiation, growth mindset, adaptability, emotional intelligence, collaboration, influence, and strategic thinking — the skills that turn strong individual contributors into future leaders.

And today, our Pulse Circles mentoring program officially comes full circle.

What made it work was simple: people choosing to keep learning, even when it was uncomfortable. To every mentee who showed up and opened up, and to every mentor who gave their time and wisdom — thank you. Thanks as well to SGDC Management for the support, and to Joy Roman for the thoughtful program design that made all of this possible.

This isn't really an end — it's a send-off. We're confident this community is on its way to becoming the influential technology leaders who will shape teams, culture, and both business and societal outcomes in meaningful ways.

And to those watching from the sidelines: the next circle is waiting for you.

𝗔𝗜 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗦𝗚𝗗𝗖’𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱
𝘣𝘺 𝘈𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘳𝘰 𝘉𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘰

For the past two months, 40 members of the SGDC team stepped away from the codebases and spreadsheets to dive deep into AI Training Program conducted by ADVANCED by StackTrek in partnership with TESDA. 🚀

While we already leverage AI in our development cycle, this wasn't just about "using tools." It was about mastering the "Why" and "How", the training gave us a deeper understanding of how AI can further improve the way we work from eliminating repetitive workflows and refining prompts to ensuring compliance with Data Privacy and AI Ethics.

Throughout the program, teams explored practical ways to integrate AI into daily operations. One of the highlights was the product presentation, where both Engineering and Non-Engineering units presented their ideas on how AI can streamline tasks, improve efficiency, and solve real workplace challenges. It was inspiring to see how every team brought different perspectives and experiences to the table.

We also appreciate ADVANCED by StackTrek for carefully organizing the sessions in a way that did not disrupt our production hours, allowing everyone to fully engage in the training while maintaining operational excellence.

Completing this program and awarding certificates to 40 SGDC members marks another important milestone in our journey as an organization committed to staying at the forefront of technology.

As we move forward this fiscal year, our vision is clear: AI is not just a tool to automate work, it is an opportunity to innovate, create better solutions, and transform the way we deliver value. 💡✨

For many software engineers, growth starts with writing code. But for Nef, a Senior Tech Lead in one of the key product Areas of Bill One, real growth began when he started thinking beyond it.

Before joining Sansan Global Development Center, Inc., Nef worked on different web and mobile applications across multiple companies. While the fast-paced nature of the industry helped him grow technically, he eventually realized he was looking for something with deeper purpose and long-term impact.

That opportunity came at SGDC.

As one of the pioneering members of the team, Nef worked closely with counterparts from Japan and eventually helped the team move from supporting development to owning core product features.

Today, his role goes beyond implementation. From designing features and mentoring team members to collaborating across teams, what motivates him most is solving real customer problems and creating meaningful value through the product.

For Nef, being a software engineer today is not only about writing code—it’s about understanding the product, the users, and the impact behind every feature built.

His advice to aspiring professionals:

Innovation doesn’t ask for permission — it dares teams to build the future with speed, courage, and a little bit of play.

In a short sprint, this team explored a high-potential idea: an AI “co-pilot” experience for a purchasing workflow—designed to make a real process clearer, faster, and less frustrating.

They did it the best way we know how: with real play, real fun, and real psychological safety—where bold ideas can show up early, imperfect, and still get better fast.

Because when people feel safe to experiment, innovation stops being scary and starts being a team sport.

What stood out was both how they built and how they pitched: crisp problem framing, clear value, and confident storytelling.

At first, I was unsure about AI.

I had my reservations, mainly due to ethical and environmental concerns. At the same time, I could see how it was transforming the world rapidly, especially in the tech industry. It was not something I could simply ignore.

That perspective began to shift through SGDC's initiatives.

Through programs like the AI Training Course and AI Hackathon, I was able to explore AI in a more engaging and practical way. These experiences enriched my understanding of AI, giving me the space to learn, experiment, and better grasp how these tools can support the work we do as engineers.

Over time, my perspective continued to change.

I began to see AI not as something that replaces people, but as something that can help us work better. When used properly, it can simplify complex tasks, accelerate our workflow, and give us more room to focus on solving the right problems.

But one thing became clear: AI is only as effective as the people who use it.

These tools can help us move faster, but they still rely on human knowledge, experience, and judgment. As engineers, we need to understand the technology, ask the right questions, and use it with good intentions.

For me, this journey has been less about learning to depend on AI and more about learning how to work with it thoughtfully and responsibly.
